I work in a classroom with children who have varying disabilities. I've scoured the internet over looking for software that is accessible, but returned very few results... mostly for shoddy or outdated software with outrageous pricetags.
Over the last few months, I have developed several different learning tools and games to aide in the classroom. It is very nice to be able to observe as a player/viewer runs one of my programs and to see what works and what doesn't.
As time goes on, I'm becoming more interested in developing for a switch. So many people will never have the chance to play a game like Super Mario Bros (much less any modern game which uses 15 + buttons).
Yesterday I sat down and through a little demo together for a simple platform game. It still has a few bugs to iron out, but I was hoping to get some feedback.

This is a worth endeavor.
This is a worth endeavor. I've been interested in the concept of one-button-gaming ever since the first (Windows) based version of JoustPong.)
I did a series (hmm, only 4 actual games) of GameButtons, games where both the control and game display are a single HTML pushbutton)
I don't know if we want to get into strictly themed KotMs (we almost got there w/ zombies last time) but one-button gaming would be a worthy subject.
oh, that hungry worm
One-switch gaming has been a pet fascination of mine for a while now. It's such an elegant concept, and one that I think hasn't been explored very thoroughly. The accessibility is also a big draw!
Anyway, this is really neat, though I have to admit that I can't get up to the clouds. Am I missing something? (I totally dig the translucent, geometric graphical style, by the way.)
p.s. You should give Kirk's gamebutton arcade a whirl if you haven't already -- it's a brilliant idea.

You know I forgot to try the actual demo!
OK, some tough love criticism of it: while I like the aesthetics of the game, I don't like how difficult it is to identify background objects from platforms to jump on. And I wouldn't be surprised if for at least some of the population you're looking to reach out to would share that as a bit of a frustration.
Moving in another direction
I tinkered a bit more with the game since I posted last, but I don't think I'll bother much more with it. It sounds silly, but my own demo inspired something that I believe has a lot of potential to... ah, I'm not going to build it up just yet. I still need to pull it off. I'll let you guys know. :D
At any rate, I've recently purchased MMF2 (it's in the mail), so I'll be able to use some of the nifty extensions that have recently been released (Physics stuff for ragdolls, java compiling, etc). I'm totally excited for it to find it's way into my post box!
oh wow, they have rag doll
oh wow, they have rag doll stuff???
maybe i should expand my horizons...
hmm!
Yeah, that actually ties in pretty nicely to a one-switch idea I had a while back! This bears further investigation.
Ragdoll Physics and Other Rambling
I am attaching a demo that was posted in the Clickteam forums a bit before the extension was released. The graphics are really basic because they are only there to demo the engine. The demo allows you to load a prebuilt doll or make your own. I spent about 45 minutes building my own robot when I first downloaded the file. :)
I got my copy of MMF2 at a discount because of my work and because I owned an old copy of MMF. If you are interested in purchasing MMF2 and are in school or are a teacher - definitely contact Clickteam before you purchase. I saved nearly 50 bucks! :D

On a totally different tangent... I'm totally addicted to Cave Story! I've pretty near completed the game, but I don't want it to end! If you guys haven't picked this one up... you should! It is one of the greatest games I have ever played... certainly the best freeware game!

Oops.
I tried to delete the 4noah attachment (I was going to post an updated build) and ended up deleting the entire blog entry. :o
It's just not my day.
Aw, man! That sucks.
Aw, man! That sucks. Doesn't look like there's any way to revive it on my end, either, nor is there a good way to prevent it from happening again :(
4Noah
Since the entry got deleted, here is a link to my 4Noah page: http://games4noah.sitesled.com/ . To recapitulate: 4Noah is a keyboard simulator that makes many games playable with one switch. The latest version of 4Noah has a configuration menu, support for autofire, and up to 7 keypresses in a game! :D The guys over in the Retro Remakes forum have been great for feedback on the project. For now I will be posting updates about development in the accessibility forum: http://www.retroremakes.com/forum2/forumdisplay.php?f=84
Also, I thought I'd mention that we got linked over at TIGSource! :)
When is the next Klik of the Month Klub? Did I miss it?
