SEUCK remake for Windows, Linux, Mac

This may be the most important retro remake ever. Shoot'Em Up Construction Kit for Windows, Linux and Mac.

Freeware. Pixel-perfect collision detection. Horizontal scrolling. Jump 'n run mode. Stand-alone exe output games.

Words just don't make the justice. So go, get it.

Chainwreck 2 and 1/2: Sequelitis Spectacular!

Since the Knytt Stories collab was a success I figured we might as well go on ahead with a more general game dev-oriented chainwreck. Of course, there's a small issue with that.

A lot of people are now on 64-bit Windows or a different operating system altogether. Klik & Play usage has dwindled considerably in favor of other game development tools. For Pirate Kart V, I saw a pretty good mix of tools, including Klik & Play, Multimedia Fusion 2, Game Maker, Flash, and Unity, just to name a few. A chainwreck where everyone uses the same tool and produces a single game will be hard to facilitate.

Instead I'm proposing something different: we will implement this chainwreck in the form of separate games that are sequels to one another! Yes, that's right! Here's how it'll work:

- The first participant creates "Episode 1". It will establish the main character and scenario and provide the first three(?) levels. At the end there will be a cliffhanger or two for the next person to pick up on. The participant creates a standalone and submits the episode as a game.
- The second participant creates "Episode 2". It will build upon the first episode, maybe address one of the cliffhangers presented earlier, maybe not. More levels created, perhaps more material for future participants to build upon. The participant creates a standalone and submits the episode as a separate game to the first one.
- The third participant picks up on this and etc. etc.

Basically, participants will be free to use whatever tools they want and design their own sequel however they choose - perhaps one person's section of the game is a whole new genre or minigame, or it might just build upon the gameplay established by the previous entry. Design your entry however you like, as long as it has some tangible connection to the previous games by scenario.

Coming soon-ish after KotM #57.

The 529-in-1 Klik & Play Pirate Kart II: Kart Harder Appreciation Thread

FIVE HUNDRED TWENTY NINE.

You lovely, lovely people. Congratulations to you all.

If my SQL-fu is correct, there were 102 of you who contributed to this beautiful thing. That's nearly as many people as the last Pirate Kart had games. 50 of you contributors signed up for the site less than a day before it started. That's amazing. I can't thank everyone enough. Some of your work is astonishing, some of your work is terrible, and all of your work is appreciated. Be proud.

If you haven't already, please post a bio for inclusion in the Pirate Kart compilation. You don't have to give your real name, or a real picture of yourself, or anything -- though you can, if you like. It's simply what will show up as an "about the author" when the player clicks on your game(s) in the menu. Feel free to have fun with it. Have a peek at the existing bios for inspiration, if you like.

I've heard a lot of people asking when the compilation will be ready. The answer is, probably within a couple of weeks. The menu rewrite is going smoothly; I'm hoping to go from "ugly and unusable" to "thematically-appropriately ugly and borderline usable". Those of you who have ever booted up a Windows 95 shareware CD-ROM will understand what I'm going for.

A few people have asked how they can help. The best way to help, in general, is to play some games, comment on them, and mark your favourites. You may have noticed an "Add to favorites" link at the bottom of each game; when you like a game a lot, click it! Not only can people see which games you like by clicking on your user name, but I'll be able to incorporate this information into the compilation menu, providing a roadmap to the unmissable gems scattered within the daunting truckload of games that is the Pirate Kart.

Once again: Thank you all for making games and being a part of this remarkable event! I hope many of the newcomers stick around and make some more games with us for the March Klik of the Month Klub.

I made this game in a week for ID TECH summer camp in 2012.
I still play it now and then, and I had a couple friends play it competitively a while ago.
credit to kmarinsh and fucking everett for bug-finding and getting the secret volcano door ending.

INFORMATION IN ORDER OF APPEARANCE: SPOILERS

the exe is in there twice, i know
arrow keys to move, up to climb, ctrl to jump, space to shoot, because i hate good controls
i know the iphone joke isnt funny,
don't fall in holes
the ladders suck really bad, i know.
some blocks break when you shoot them (others don't)
animals deal damage
the FOUR FROG ROOM is a survival thing, i think its set to 30 seconds
also yes, you CAN'T shoot up, cry some more
the owl cannot be killed, only stunned. the more you shoot it, the more it is stunned.
the final frog brothers cannot be killed, and only serve to avenge the cows.
Challenge.exe is garbage, don't even consider opening it. Don't even bother.
