Stream of Pretentiousness Season 2

season2.png

Hey all! In the last few weeks I've revived a project I was posting about here a year ago:
Stream of Pretentiousness

It's daily vignettes about my life (interactive non-fiction, if you will). I'm calling this Season 2 because last year I was making them in Twine, and this time I'm experimenting with other open-source engines for making hypertext stories. So yeah!

non-game trainwrecks

I've been feeling kind of uninspired about making games recently, but I have been playing a lot of music. I figured I'd try to apply the trainwreck method to recording songs, since it's kind of intimidating to write and record music (especially since I have no good equipment or talent). This is the first like... actual "song" that i've ever written. I kind of wrote it as I went. It was fun! If you squint a bit, it's a late 70s pop punk anthem recorded by actual musicians. Maybe I'll do more.

If anyone objects to non-games, let me know. But I think this fits with the aesthetic & mission of the site. Maybe I'll post other stuff like art pieces and whatnot as I make them too... we'll see!

PART 2: May 20th 2016

I made an updated version of that song... actually this is my 4th attempt, but this time I had a slightly less crappy mic to use. I'm genuinely trying to make a tight and melodic pop punk song, lol. I'm just actually that bad at playing in rhythm. I'll get there eventually...

PART 3: May 21st 2016

I changed the previous recording a little bit. it's getting towards the mix of raucous goofiness and concerning subject matter that i was originally going for... i'm going to let this sit for a while and decide if i want to re record it again in a few weeks. i feel like i could do better, but i don't want to get burnt out on it.

PART 4: May 26th

I guess I'll post visual art here too. Here's a sketchbook page I like. might keep working on it. one thing on my 'learn how to-do' list is to get better at photographing art so maybe I'll try to figure that out this week.

PART 4, VOL. 2: MAY 26th and 1/2

I just made another song today also. look at me, doing things.

Game File:

Finally got my old games off my ancient laptop, time to upload them (!!)

Use your mouse. Kill the zombies in the first two rounds, avoid them in the next two. Avoid the zombies in the boss round and kill Dracula by touching him.

Made by me and my friend SPR9Monkey Games who doesn't have a GT account, I'll post his games if he makes any.

Bunny Murder Game

bunnnypirateKartscreen.png

A very short (and bad) game about some bunny rabbits.

There is a story behind this:
When I first started making games in unity I started to make a game about bunnies who kill other bunnies (murder bunnies).
It took me like 3 months of it getting more and more ambitious before I scrapped it.
And so I just stripped it down to the bare basics, and it took 4 hours. Hah.

Kind of sketch made in a few hours, i have all these crazy ideas for stuff like this but i end up getting put off by the scope so i thought i would try releasing some smaller things like this

Controls: A, S, D, arrow keys (+ a few others not really necessary)

Honestly not really sure if this will work or not, if anyone tries it out let me know
You might have to download this first: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/cpp/windows/latest-supported-vc-redist?view=msvc-170#latest-microsoft-visual-c-redistributable-version

Made this using Unity and this tool which myself and some friends have been working on for reusing bits of games in other games - https://github.com/plunderludics/unity-hawk

This stuff is pretty inspired by a couple of games from glorious trainwrecks years ago -

ATTENTION: the audio in this prototype can be loud, so I recommend turning your volume down before playing, to avoid being startled. also, the graphics may be hard on your eyes, so please quit if it's causing you any irritation.

this was an experimental prototype I made 3 years ago meant to try a few different things at once. possibly the most interesting to me, and unfortunately the biggest issue, was using a generative sound extension, by Looki, that I found on a Clickteam forum somewhere. it works great and can make some really wild audio pieces with little effort. unfortunately, it seems to *only* work in Clickteam's editor itself. the game crashes if I try to build it as an exe. so, this version of the game has pre-compiled sound effects that I think are good.

if you are interested in seeing what the generated audio can be like, and own a copy of Clickteam Fusion 2.5, check out the "dev version" folder included here!

INSTRUCTIONS:
- launch "_.exe"
- you don't have to do anything at the intro, but you could try
- once the prototype has begun, move with the arrow keys or wasd
- you can resize the window by the maximize button or dragging an edge
- finish the prototype by demonstrating mastery of language
- upon reaching a finished state, the prototype will close automatically
- you can also press Escape to quit early
