Mementos® Mori

Screen Shot 2019-10-22 at 7.59.08 PM.png

I wanted to make something for the "Pre-fright Check-in" jam but I started late and didn't work very hard. It's just an old-skool website, really, and some things I find scary to think about. Death and existence, you know. Here's the frame I wrote for the game:

In 1999 the Perfetti Van Melle corporation, in collaboration with the Baudelaire estate, ran a promotion called "Mementos® Mori." The promotion consisted of a limited edition naphthalene flavor of their popular mentos® candy called "Ail-mints." Printed on the inside wrapper of each such roll of "Ail-mints" was a depressing tidbit meant to "chill the very soul of the reader as that ... peppermint candy chills their taste buds."

A promotional website was also created, featuring some examples of text from the promotion, as was the style at the time. A miserable failure, the website was quickly scrubbed from the mentos® website and was never mentioned again. Recently a copy of it turned up on a CD-ROM among the possessions of the late Mr Guy Dupré. He was believed to be 82 at time of passing and was survived by no immediate family.

The restored website is shown above.

Bileview

screenshot.png

A game... or vignette? I have no idea. Where the game window (I guess it's a game now) becomes a small picture frame that can be moved around with the mouse. And as you move the picture frame around the screen, you will find a MONSTER that is trembling in fear at something accompanied by a cry. Or is the sound effect a taunt? Who knows???????????

Made in a day for the inaugural Nobody Except Me Knew I Was Making This But I Needed To Capture The Idea Before It Faded jam.

Bileview was created in Clickteam Fusion 2.5. Art was drawn in GraphicsGale/Microsoft Paint and sound effects were recorded in Audacity.

I've uploaded a new .zip that now contains the source for anybody who's interested in exploring a similar mechanic! I removed the sprites and audio from it, though, to preserve some of the sense of discovery in the game. It requires the Mouse object and Window Control object.

BINKY XXI: BINKY GOES INTO THE HAUNTED CASTLE TO SEARCH FOR THEIR BOYFRIEND RUFF

BINKYXXI.png

===DESCRIPTION===

BINKY XXI is a short walkabout game starring you in the role of Binky, who is looking for their boyfriend Ruff. Can you find Ruff, deep in the clutches of Robolloyd's deadly, disturbing, disgusting, scary, scummy, stagnant, trap-filled, terrifying, triangular, haunted castle? Probably!

Once the game has been launched on your computer device, you can press the spacebar to advance the opening explanation. Afterwards, you can move Binky around the world with the WASD or arrow keys. Press spacebar again at any point to try to interact with an object you are standing above- such as an open door, a locked door, a secret door, etc. Who knows what you'll find? I do.

===THEBINKYZONE EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH THE DEVELOPERS===

Interviewer: Finally, tomorrow is the release of "BINKY XXI", can you tell us at TheBinkyZone about it?
Developer 1: So... We got our Halloween holiday break early, and all of us decided to have a party at the local haunt.
Developer 2: Literally! A real haunted mansion. I saw a ghost!!
Developer 3: No you didn't, it was just a sheet on a broom!

Interviewer: What was your experience like at the mansion?
Developer 1: Yes well. The fruit juice we had catered was pretty strong, it affected our faculties pretty bad.
Developer 2: Don't even get me started on the catering... We had to carry it to the mansion ourselves!
Developer 3: We had such a wild time, when we got back to the office that afternoon, we realized developer 4 was missing!

Interviewer: What happened next, and how is developer 4 doing today?
Developer 1: It was such a scary experience, we figured it'd be great material for the next Binky game.
Developer 2: And they say that to this day, what's left of him still haunts that mansion... That was a week ago.
Developer 3: We actually just forgot the directions to the mansion, so nobody's been back to check on him.

Interviewer: That's IT. The standards of your company make me sick. I refuse to continue to support such a dangerous workplace!
Interviewer: (stands up, knocking their chair over, and leaves the room)
Developers: ...
Developer 2: Hey, they left their box of donuts behind, I call dibs!!

My Castle's Haunted!

mch8.png

You inherited a castle from your late grandma! But something's UP with it....

I'm not happy with some of this game's writing but I had to release it in time for halloween. I explored the idea of being in a space with a bunch of monsters moving between the rooms chasing you. They smell you to find you, and you can sometimes hear a distant door opening and closing when they reach a room next to the one you're in.

There's also lots of cool secrets and stuff to see and touch in the castle. Don't expect too much tho

Rabbit Game

screenie.png

This was made originally for Johnny's MS Paint jam. I liked the challenge and potential of mspaint, especially in how it doesn't allow for alpha channels, so everything has to be a big rectangle. It took a long time to figure out what the game was, and once I realized it it was kind of depressing how big the scope had to be, but I don't think it spiraled out of control too much. There are a lot of paths, and they intersect in strange ways. Don't feel like you have to find them all or anything, of course.

Also, as a heads up, it's a game about wild animals & it can get a little violent and a little sexual, so watch out!

SUPER SCARY HORROR GAME

SCARRY HOORROR GAM 2017-01-29 15-49-18-07.png

Slender based games.
They always follow the same formula, you know?

- Lost in a forest.
- You have a useless item of some sort that does nothing to help you (a lantern or a flashlight with terrible brightness).
- Thing(s) are chasing you, clipping through trees because they're paranormal or something.
- It uses Unity's stock terrain assets.
- You collect objects.

I took these factors and made a game for my friend with some new tweaks.

- There's a baby, a bunch of flying fat children and a massive fist-cat coming your way.
- You have three useless items instead of one: A bootleg gluon gun, an empty pistol and your other gun (your huge biceps).
- The skybox is happy.
- You don't have to collect things. Just run around the forest trying not to touch the enemies.
- It was made in 1 hour. That's how easy it is to use Unity's stock assets.

Here's some controls:
WASD to move.
Space to jump.
Left click (and hold) to utilize the bootleg gluon gun.
Scroll wheel to rotate arm and pistol for gangster shot.
Right click to slug with your arm.

Plot:
You are a person of small stature (known as a midget, a shorty, whatever you choose) with one big arm for slapping and one huge hand for
dual wielding. You go to the forest to see if you can find your pet cat Sclimgo (he's the fist-cat, the only cat you could ever ask for. He punches with such power, you'll never need a body guard ever again). You hear fat children and a baby. Sclimgo is now huge and evil. You realize that your arch nemisis, Slivki has turned reality upside down and now you have no choice but to run around and wait for the inevitable.

Are YOU tough enough to NOT get captured by Slivki?
CAN you EXPERIENCE what has NOT been EXPERIENCED before?
