ZZTV is a community project started by Dark FLR in 1998. ZZTers can create and contribute channels, which are small ZZT worlds that can contain any kind of content the author wishes: previews of upcoming games, artwork, minigames, stories, etc... These channels are traditionally given names that begin with the "#" symbol (e.g., "#bakedcheese"). All of the channels are sent to the person in charge of ZZTV; the project leader is then responsible for compiling the contributions into a series of volumes and releasing them to the public. ZZTVs are done at the rate of about one per year. Each ZZTV is numbered; for example, the current ZZTV-in-progress is ZZTV11. The person in charge of ZZTV changes fairly frequently; Zenith owned the project between issues 4-7 before passing the mantle on, with the more recent project leaders being MadTom, Commodore, and now bitbot.

In the official IRC channel, me and mno alone are talking about RPGs and suddenly when i remember about good collabs there was around in Glorious Trainwrecks, i spoke about our next collab for Glorious Trainwrecks, TGOHRRPGCETC (The Glorious O.H.R.RPGC.E. Trainwreck Collab), dedicated to the most outstanding non-japanese making tool, OHRRPGCE (Official Hamster Republic Role Playing Game Construction Engine).

Link to the official (wiki) site: http://rpg.hamsterrepublic.com/ohrrpgce/Main_Page (you find the download here)

Event details

You don't need clickteam's software to collab, but instead, you use OHRRPGCE as the tool of the trade for this event, as we never used this thing to make games. The objective of this event is to make a full-fledged collaborative game featuring a protagonist named Robin, who for now, is a unknown man which someone may make its own identity and its journey to a alternate dimension full of weird and twisting places based from minds and creativity. The event will have the event hoster (Johny L.) to create the game while all the other members have to create resources for the game until the end of the 14th November 2014.

Examples

Here are some examples made with this program:

The stuff types

In this collab, i told you that the objective is to gather you guys to create resources for the game until the deadline, but i'll tell you about the types:
  • Graphics: The graphics can be imported as BMP and sometimes each time you import a BMP, it tells you to replace the palette. Meanwhile, you can make resources in the buildt-in sprite editor and if you finished a spriteset, press E and save all frames into BMPs. You can aswell import and export screens as BMP.
  • Maps: Unfortunately, maps can't be made and imported, but you could make map tilesets as maptiles in the editor and there's a way that you can also export them, just that you need to make a tileset, then go back and go to Import/Export Full Mapsite Sets.
  • Text Strings: I'll take care of this stuff myself.
  • Hero, Enemy Stats, Battle Formations: Like above, i'll take care of this stuff myself.
  • Attacks, Items, Shops, Menus, etc.: I can't explain these well, you gotta see on the old how-tos or check the documentation on the official wiki of OHRRPGCE. http://rpg.hamsterrepublic.com/ohrrpgce/HOWTO, but yet again, i'll take care of these stuff myself.
  • Music and Sound Effects: Cleverly, WAV is allowed, but suprisingly, OGGs are allowed too. Feel free to use Sfxr
  • Font: About the fonts i may keep it.
  • Plotscripting: Not quitely understanding for newbies, but once learned, they may look easy. (Look below about Plotscripting)

Plotscripting

Plotscripting is one of the most important features of OHRRPGCE, and you might need these for making cutscenes, interactions of NPCs, and other stuff. Plotscripting can be hard sometimes for newbies, but reading both these guides: http://rpg.hamsterrepublic.com/ohrrpgce/Plotscripting_Tutorial and http://hamsterrepublic.com/ohrrpgce/docs/plotdict.xml
And there's a guide about making cutscenes here: http://rpg.hamsterrepublic.com/ohrrpgce/Creating_Cutscenes
According to the tutorial, you might need a separate notepad like program to write the scripts and then import inside the game.

Event Dates

The event starts 1 day after Klik of the Month Klub #86 (18th August 2014 08:50 AM) and ends in the 28th November 2014 12 PM.

Several Links related to OHRRPGCE

  • Slime Salad http://www.slimesalad.com/: Is one of the largest OHRRPGCE fanbases and there are many OHRRPGCE games, and has a forum for posting games and an exclusive forum coded board of Slime Battles.
  • The Hamster Wheel http://hamsterwheel.mocbjsoftware.com/: This site contains reviews to the games made with OHRRPGCE and you surely got to get here if you feel like getting a game that is good quality or not.

The difficulty for this event might be medium, as this may be a harder work than the other collabs.

I forgot to upload the suggestion for Dec. 7 even though I made the game! It's Tornado!

The over a year long "Klik and Play Marathon" will so be in the THE FINAL LAPS (that is if each month or every so many days were a lap, or if games were laps).

So, what's going down is:

Use Klik and Play!
(you can first make stuff in KnP and then export it to something else, as long as it starts in KnP)
There will be a (suggested) theme for each day!
Game makers will have (a suggested) 15 minutes to make the day's game!
Please post your day's game in the comments of Klik and Play Marathon!
(so it doesn't clog up the New Game feed)

I'm going to run the marathon if no one else does! I hope you join me!

Ho ho ho! It's that time of year again!

Introducing the THIRD annual Sekret Santa Klub! Sign up! Get your name drawn from a hat! Make a game! Who has your name? Who knows! But whoever drew your name will be making a game just for you!

Here are the rules:

- Sign up before December 11th to get entered into the hat drawing!
- Post gift ideas in this thread so your Secret Santa knows what kind of game to make.
- On the 11th, you will get a private message telling you who your assigned Santee is! You will have roughly two weeks to make a game for your Santee!
- Post your game here at some point during the 25th! Don't worry if you're a few days late. Just try to get it in at some point before the new year.

Reminder: Each Santee gets ONE (1) gift and ONE (1) gift only.

UPDATE! Signups are still being accepted! We will have a second drawing for those who didn't make it in time by the 11th!

UPDATE 2! The second name drawing has occurred, and signups are now closed. Thanks for participating!
