I wasn't planning to make anything as I'm in the middle of a bigger project but the theme was 'It is not real' and this idea came to me so I spent a couple of days putting it together. Hello guys.
This is my 2nd game that l made with Stencyl.
l don't wanna make you got tired so play freely or read this information:
Story:
Oh noes...
Zombies and other mobs entered in the Earth to kill you and you must pass Levels to unlock weapons and new mobs. You unlock 1 mob and 1 weapon when you pass each 3 Levels.
How to Play:

Practise Mode:
Spacebar: Use sword.
Click on "Spawn Zombie!!!" button to spawn a zombie.
Normal Mode:
- At level 2 and later...
- Up Arrow: Make Player Jump.
Click on weapons to use them.
End of The Demo...
Left Arrow: Move Player Left.
Right Arrow: Move Player Right.
- Warning: The has lots of bugs that l'll fix them later.
OR tell in the comments the bugs.
Future Updates:
- l'll fix those bugs.
- Add 5 more maps.

As a hired sword, it is your job to clear the monsters, find the performers, and make sure that the show goes smoothly...

This was a very meditative process. I'm not sure how faithful it is to the original as I only looked at gurnburial's version while making this and I had to try to get it done in under a day. Unfortunately I couldn't get the movement working quite right and also the boxes don't have the right bounciness. But I still learned quite a bit and had a magical time doing this sleepy boy rush. I can highly recommend making a sleepy boy clone or clone-clone for yourself!!

The .zip has two PDFs - "Bower Island" is for reading on its own in a PDF viewer, but "Bower Island - booklet" is for printing into a zine. To do so, print double sided and use "Flip on Short Edge". If your printing program doesn't specify which edge to flip on, in my experience they tend to default to the wrong way. Chrome's printing feature can specify the edge to flip on, though. Once it's printed out, just fold and staple.

Postmortem: I had to do a lot of character sprites within a small timespan, something I am not at all used to doing and I honestly kinda panicked while making them. There's several problems with the sprites and I... really don't like how they look. I'm definitely going to have to get more drawing practice in, but I also learned from this that I shouldn't be afraid to make mistakes now and then.

I later redid one of the sprites and I think it looks much better:

Explore a vast, post-apocalyptic desert wasteland with your mech and shoot up a bunch of war machines to rescue your crush from the clutches of an evil cult. Featuring open-world gameplay, feminist political machinations, a bizarre amount of incomprehensible lore, and lots of explosions. I was only able to fit in a couple Digimon, but they do form the basis for the religious system used in the world so hopefully that makes up for it.

couldn't stop thinking about mkapolk's 'sleepy boy' game (https://www.glorioustrainwrecks.com/node/11189), i think its a great game and i wanted to figure out how it works so i tried to make a clone of it.

i tried to be as faithful to the original as possible, but there were some things i couldn't figure out or was too lazy to reproduce exactly.
it was a fun exercise, very laborious but i learned a lot, i recommend it.

Postmortem: I was initially going to try using Sonic Worlds but the complexity and configuration turned me off like five minutes in so I went and made everything from scratch (except for some assets). It handles almost nothing like Sonic but I think that just kinda makes this one more amusing to play. I made an error and you basically can't take damage from the one sideways facing spike. If I fixed it I'd probably end up breaking the flow of that area sooooo..... I didn't.
