Barney Mutilator

Barney Mutilator is a game I wrote when I was fourteen, the internet was fresh and exciting, I was learning the C programming language for the first time, and oh man did everyone on the internet hate Barney the Dinosaur, holy shit. This was my contribution. I totally posted this game on alt.barney.dinosaur.die.die.die and uploaded it to cdrom.com. Shawn Hargreaves even posted a link to it on the official Allegro site, back in the day, which pretty much validated my existence.

Several anti-Barney games that came afterwards ripped off my title screen graphic and, ahem, storyline. None were quite so pointless nor graphic. Nothing is quite like Barney Mutilator, really.

RealTime Robots

In my mind, this is the game that spawned the Klik of the Month Klub.

I made this game in early 2000, for a game programming competition that I proposed for Teen Programmers Unite. The object? Make a game, using the Allegro game-making library that was popular at the time, in just four hours. An impartial third party came up with the theme, like Iron Chef. Myself and one other guy actually pulled it off.

The theme: make a realtime version of Robots. This is my entry. I would forever remember the experience as one of the most exhilarating and satisfying I'd ever had.

And of course, that practical experience as a teenager was what convinced me years later that making a game in two hours using Klik & Play would actually be possible, and really, really fun.

(If you can tell me where "It's a beaker, Todd!" comes from I will give you one million points. There are only three hits for that phrase on Google, is how inside that joke is.)

Hit T to teleport, click the mouse to call in an airstrike, and hit ESC to quit.

CatSmash

So here is a game that I made when I was sixteen years old. Basically, I had a math teacher who talked about her cat in class a lot, so I made a game that I surreptitiously loaded onto the class computer where you drive over cats for no reason.

Lots of people had trouble setting 320x200x8bit fullscreen modes, so I re-ported the game from scratch* to run in a 640x400 GDI window. There should be absolutely no compatibility problems anymore, dammit. SEE IGF JUDGES I TOLD YOU I'D FIX IT

* the version that was uploaded before was a port that I did a number of years ago which I stupidly threw away the source code for.

Healy and SoftSoft Present an IGF Text Adventure Funpack

Presenting my 7-in-one Text Adventure Fun Pack! Requires an interpreter to play; check out Windows Frotz or Gargoyle for Windows and Zoom for the Mac! If you are confused by these text adventure things, check out this handy dandy card!

Games included in the fun pack:

You Have to Put the Ball in the Cup: A SoftSoft classic!
You Have to Put the Spider in the Jack-O-Lantern: Just in time for Halloween!
You Have to Put the George Washington in the American Flag: Everyone's favorite piece of Americana interactive fiction!
Delicious Breakfast: From Pirate Kart 2!
Interview with a Rock Star: Made so long ago and is so obscure that it's just like a BRAND NEW GAME!

All of these classic and soon-to-be-classic games are now blorbed up, so that they can include cover art and bibliographic data and stuff!

It'd certainly take a lot off of Mike's workload.

Catch the Mice

A dumb game I made roughly ten years ago in The Games Factory.

You must catch as many poorly-drawn mice as possible by placing mouse traps near them. You can't place them too close to the mice to start with or else the game will play a buzzer. Lazy, I know. Then you pray for the mice to decide to wander over toward the trap. You can attract the mice with cheese by holding the right mouse button (best done in light taps) but you only have a limited amount, and using it drains your points.

Features annoying sound effects.

This game sucks, but it doesn't suck as much as Winning Square or Toy Motor Boat Sim.

Toy Motor Boat Sim

Roughly ten years ago, my grandma got me this dinky toy motor boat with a pull string. I don't know why she gave it to me, seeing as I was clearly too old for such things. Naturally, I opened The Games Factory and made a game about it.

Use Left and Right arrow keys to turn. Press and hold Shift to pull the string, and release to move. When your toy boat fills up with water, you must empty it by shaking it or else it will half-capsize. Hold Ctrl and mash Space to shake the water out of the toy boat.

Press the X in the top-right corner of the window to stop playing this game. Which is what you should be doing because much like Winning Square, this game sucks.

Winning Square

An old, old game I made roughly ten years ago in The Games Factory. I don't know why I made it, because it sucks! It's about clicking things. You know, like games on Facebook!

Your objective is to mindlessly click the green panels looking for the Winning Square. if you click it, you gain points and a new board. If you take more than 45 clicks, you lose the round and get a new board. After losing a round, your current points tally is emptied into your total points tally. Except there's not much point, because these tallies will be forgotten when you close the game. Which is what you should be doing, because this game sucks!

The Alien Zit

Alien Zit is a game nearly eighteen years in the making! Using the most advanced digitized speech technology that money could buy in 1989, you will become immersed in a virtual reality simulation of the zit cream bottle selection process unlike any other you have ever seen. Includes authentic WordPerfect 5.1 documents from 1993, and .wav files of 11 year olds saying "farrrrrt".

Ported to work on modern machines thanks to QB64.
