Playing around and ended up making a little thing for the anniversary jam. There's not a lot of gameplay - mainly because what I had in mind as I was playing around was dim memories of screensavers. Such gameplay as there is comprises clicking on the crystals to try for a high score (because crystal is traditional for 15th anniversary!). Or you can just watch the pictures drift past. The images are all produced with neural blender which is a web-based AI generated 'art' system using 'computer' as part of the text prompt; I've been down a bit of a rabbit hole re that sort of thing since I made my recent 'Art of the Real'. Anyway - hope you get something out of it and happy anniversary!

ATTENTION: the audio in this prototype can be loud, so I recommend turning your volume down before playing, to avoid being startled. also, the graphics may be hard on your eyes, so please quit if it's causing you any irritation.

this was an experimental prototype I made 3 years ago meant to try a few different things at once. possibly the most interesting to me, and unfortunately the biggest issue, was using a generative sound extension, by Looki, that I found on a Clickteam forum somewhere. it works great and can make some really wild audio pieces with little effort. unfortunately, it seems to *only* work in Clickteam's editor itself. the game crashes if I try to build it as an exe. so, this version of the game has pre-compiled sound effects that I think are good.

if you are interested in seeing what the generated audio can be like, and own a copy of Clickteam Fusion 2.5, check out the "dev version" folder included here!

INSTRUCTIONS:
- launch "_.exe"
- you don't have to do anything at the intro, but you could try
- once the prototype has begun, move with the arrow keys or wasd
- you can resize the window by the maximize button or dragging an edge
- finish the prototype by demonstrating mastery of language
- upon reaching a finished state, the prototype will close automatically
- you can also press Escape to quit early

Happy 15th birthday, Glorious Trainwrecks!

I guess it's a belated birthday, because it's a little after midnight here. But that's probably fitting, because I recall deciding to launch Glorious Trainwrecks at like 2 in the morning when I really should have been in bed.

For many years this place was a refuge for me, a place I felt completely comfortable to be myself, to make mistakes, to try new things, and above all, to have a great time with friends. I don't spend a lot of time here anymore, but I think it has been and continues to be a place like that for a lot of other people too, and there is little that could possibly make me happier than that.

For the past couple of years I have been experimenting with strange game livecoding workflows in Lisp. For the 15th Anniversary Klik Jam I thought of a way I might be able to share a taste of that with everyone.

Edtris is, on the surface, a very boring game of Tetris. It doesn't keep score, it doesn't speed up, the rotation algorithm is wonky. But if you play for a bit and then press the "E" key... well, something a bit magic happens.

Developed on Linux and brought kicking and screaming into Windows - run the "Edtris - RUN ME.bat" file, not love.exe. Hopefully everything works right for you on Windows, I didn't test it super extensively.

Linux and Mac users, this should work for you as well - just install love2d, open a terminal, cd to the directory holding the game, and run "love ." Packaging it into a .love file doesn't quite make sense for reasons that may be clearer after messing with the game for a bit.
