When I read that Silky herself had made a special point of uploading Havoc's Fate to her
site, I knew it had to be something special. Needless to say, I wasn't dissapointed.
In Fate, you play as one of three characters; each with their own strong points and
weaknesses.
Hans Willows is a young man who recieves a sword just as his town is attacked. He sets off
to become a hero and achieve his ambition to become a Knight of Emeraldia. Hans' weapon has a wide range with his sword but he is the slowest of the trio.
Steven Bagnor, the last in line of the Bagnor Magnicians, runs away from his evil Father's
Circus, searching for a purpose in life while getting to grips with his magical properties. Steven's weapon has medium range and he has medium speed, but can pull of some clever tricks with his magic.
Katrynn is a young Cat that wants to see the world and satisfy her curiosity. However, just
as her travels begin she is caught up in the middle of the story when she meets Steven. Katrynn has the smallest weapon range but is very fast.
Each character has a totally different route to take which all vary greatly, adding lifespan to
the game. Also, you must beat the game as all three characters in order to obtain the Final Password. Only when this code is obtained can you properly complete the game. This really gives you something to work for.
Fate is a character-driven game which goes from strength to strength as the game
progresses. The story becomes intense and the battles exciting. The only major problem is that some parts of the game are very repetetive; as to make the levels progressively harder, instead of different strategies each time there are just a progressive increase of enemies. This is soon forgotten though, as you move to a new location and the story unfolds.
The music in Fate is brilliant. Taken from SqareSoft's brilliant games; the tunes are perfect for
game. They add a great atmosphere and make every scene more interesting.
Fate is one of the largest K&P games made. There are a huge number of levels that will keep
you going for hours; and playing for the Final Password will take a long time.
All in all, Fate is a brilliantly original game with only slightly repetetive levels from time to time.
