Today is a Someday.

What is a Someday, you must inquire? It is when the one who must do certain things on a Thursday instead does not, and proceeds to not do for several months thereafter. The not doing is what which is the cancer. And the Someday is that which is the cure.

Someday is Sunday. Someday is Wednesday. Someday is Fries Day. Some days are rainy days. Someday is all days.

On the waning of the second half of Someday, July 27th, 7PM to 9PM Eastern, we shall experience the two-hours phenomenon where trains are wrecked. It is known as the Themed Trainwreck Somedays.

However, one must be wary of the trains they are about to wreck, for one mustn't wreck the train the way that any train ought to be wrecked. Instead, one must wreck the train in a very peculiar manner. A manner that follows a theme, if you will. The one theme this manner follows is entitled Single-Button Games.

Buttons are frightening. Buttons are terrifying. Buttons once bit my sister. She became hospitalized for five months.

It is of critical importance that one mustn't include more than a single button in their wrecked trains. The single button may be pressed. The single button may be depressed. The single button may be held in the downard orientation for that matter of time longer than a short period of time. The single button may be not pressed within a period of time longer than a short period of time. However, you shall have no other buttons before the single button.

The tools for wrecking trains shall be found in the place where things are kept. The intercommunication between your other persons who are wrecking trains shall be located on the #glorioustrainwrecks which lies within the irc.freenode.net, and the verbal air through which Mumbles and grumbles are heard. Should one find themselves in a state that involves not understanding the wrecking of trains using the Playing in Addition to the Kliking, the one should press and depress a single button over this arranging of letters.

I cannot give any further utterances in regards to aid that follows in avoiding pressing a greater amount of buttons than that of the single button, so I shall deliver to you the best of regards in your wrecking of trains.

P.S. The finalized trains that have been wrecked should be transported through a single button press and a single button depress through this arranging of letters.

One switch themed

One switch themed trainwrecks, got it.

After watching that movie called Inception, I started thinking about making a maze in a minute that can't be solved in a minute. So there's a theme for some future themed wreck: two hour games that can't be beaten in two hours. Kind of a tall order, so we can sit on that one for a while.

Ain't no rule

That says I can't use the mouse pointer too.

We've had a few of those

We've had a few of those already; Dargon Slayer and Mavis Beacon Teaches Titin come to mind. Would be a pretty sweet theme, I think.

Well, technically, mouse

Well, technically, mouse pointer movement is extra input: two numerical inputs, to be more precise. This is about only having a single binary input: the single input is either on or off. You're welcome to use the mouse, so long as you don't poll mouse movement, you use only one mouse button, and you don't use any keyboard keys. This also means that you can't use the built-in Mouse Movement.

Remember that the single button you get does have two states: pressed and not pressed. You can get creative with this if you want. For example, you could have a character that moves right when the button is held down, and moves left when the button isn't being pressed.

Klik & Play-specific mouse caveat

The mouse checking conditions treat single and double clicks differently. For example, if your game is checking for a single click, and the player clicks twice quickly in the same spot, only one click registers. The built-in mouse movement doesn't have this problem because it uses player 1's fire buttons for input.

Edit: Weird, I thought KNP could check for a mouse button being held down...

It can, if you use an

It can, if you use an "always set x to 0" event above a "while fire1 set x to 1" and then check the value of x in a third event.

Makes me think of those

Makes me think of those cheap remote control cars that work off of one button. Holding button = go forward, release button = turn left + roll backward.

If you're making a

If you're making a two-player game, can you use two buttons? (If it's one per player, of course, and not just two buttons that control the same character.)

Maaaybe. But try to

Maaaybe. But try to challenge yourself a little. See if you can create a two-player game where both players share the same button. :)

Addendum: Using the Mouse

Addendum: Using the Mouse Movement is okay, as long as the range allows absolutely no movement, and no collision events involve the object.

But you're probably better off just using the keyboard anyway. In particular, Space is a great key.

I've always been a big fan of the shift key

I've always been a big fan of the shift key. Space is such a large button, which makes it perceptibly slower to press. Letter keys are too finicky, and can be pressed accidentally, or mistaken for another identically shaped key nearby. Shift is that Goldilocks-just-right size and placement. It reminds me of shooting in Commander Keen, or punching in One Must Fall 2097. It just has that right weight to it.

But then everybody complains when it starts to trigger skickey keys. :(

Steal these ideas

* A music game where the only song is Shave and a Haircut and the only instrument is your finger. You win when you drive your cellmate crazy.
* Snake, but you can only do left turns.
* A really long version of Kirby Super Star's Megaton Punch minigame.
* Morse Code Operator 64

...Oh, who'm I kidding, this'll just be wall-to-wall Canabalt ripoffs.
