This is a thread to share miscellaneous interesting/inspirational/ineffable/rhinoceros images you happen upon!

This is a game called Kuma Uta. Apparently it's exactly what it looks like.

Missing-texture bug for a "high-def" mod for Half-Life 2, which also seems to inexplicably integrate a "sexxxy Alyx" mod (bringing to fruition what was tragically prophesied in a Gamer's Quarter article a few years back.)

On the other hand, I think this bug is actually kind of gorgeous. Found on Whacked-Out Ultima IX.

I'm glad dess mentioned Bad Hacks recently, because I'd completely forgotten about it. It's hard not to appreciate the sheer dedication of someone who would spend hours and hours inserting dicks and swears into Link's Awakening.

For some reason this image entirely validates the existence of a Fifth Element game for me.

Barkley remains a strong contender for my game of the year.

That last picture is obviously not to scale because black people are much taller than Asians.

Holy crap you actually

Holy crap you actually write the music that the polar bear sings? Also THOSE OUTFITS.

I'm reading that you pick from stock phrases, rather than writing in syllables with katakana or something, which is a shame. I mean, if I could somehow make a video of a polar bear in a leisure suit singing "GLORIOUS TRAINWRECKS IS FUCKING RHINOCEROS" in broken synthesized phonetic Engrish, I would import a PS2 right now.

the damned soul shudders.

One more:

I tried BYOND once, many years ago. Most of the games on there were unspeakably horrible -- and I'm led to believe that this remains true -- though I did get really into one for a while.

Tanks was pretty amazing: a team-based action game with randomly-generated levels that you could reshape while playing. I think the intent was to allow players to build interesting and intricate base defenses, but there was nothing preventing you from building anywhere else on the map, and so there tended to be a lot of weird, madcap structures and half-baked, hilarious strategies. Despite all that, I remember it being pretty balanced -- and it was also being actively developed at the time, so there was always something new to try out or experiment with. It was like the beautiful lovechild of Battle City and Team Fortress, or something.

Anyway, that doesn't really have anything to do with the above image, which I happened upon whilst randomly browsing the BYOND site a few months back (after seeing it mentioned on this very site, in fact!)

SpindleyQ's picture

Yeah, I actually own the

Yeah, I actually own the BYOND book. Years and years ago, as I remember it, the community was very small and excellent, with lots of fairly interesting games being built and people helping out. Then the fan-made anime RPGs started piling in and it sort of all went to shit. I never actually made anything with it, but I drew up a game design once!

We should totally have a BYOND games night. Networked multiplayer trainwrecks! YESSSS.

SpindleyQ's picture

Actually, just writing that

Actually, just writing that sentence makes me want to make networked multiplayer trainwrecks.

You can do it!

You can do it!

Or maybe you can talk Haze into doing a sequel to Hungry Hedgehogs MMORPG.

zum's picture

Man, it'd actually be

Man, it'd actually be amazing to make a little GT BYOND app as an alternative chatroom-cum-sketchbook/sandbox or something.

Incidentally, I'd still love to do a Sauerbraten trainwreckin' night sometime. (SpindleyQ, do you still not have a box that can run it decently?)

theblackmask's picture

Sauerbraten

I would totally be down for that. I was pretty heavily into modding Cube and making levels. If you can't run Sauerbraten, the might be able to run Cube, which is just a less featured version of Sauer.

I had almost forgotten about BYOND. I played Castle for a while, but that was the only worthwhile game I found. That was a pretty decent game for its time, when flash tower defense games didn't exist.
