everybody's favorite game in hell, hellball -- but with a twist: YOU are the ball! I don't know what this is, really, but I wanted to make something and this is what I made. I made it REALLY FAST so I hope it's working the way I intended....
Just in the nick of time! This took a lot longer than I expected.
So this is a silly little 1 player paper & pencil adventure game about collecting loot. It's sort of a mixture of Gacha games, the slow and steady progress of MMOs, and a little bit of crafting-y puzzle-y things. In trying to research Gachapon design techniques I discovered Shopkins and was horrified, so I had to channel their hyper commercialized aesthetic a little bit.
There's two uploads- a PDF that's good for reading (the pages are in order), and a PDF that's for printing (the pages are collated like a booklet). Theoretically, it should print onto 5 8.5x11" pages, double sided, but I haven't tried it yet.
P.S. if you read the "Reading" PDF - try to put it into the "pages side by side" mode!
Love from ya boy,
Marek
'What is a video game?' is a prediction of what future game developers will accept as videogames (well at least the games as art movement). It's about showing you SOME of the steps or movements in game development that developers in the future will work towards and pass.
_________________________________________________________________________
Ultimately it's about showing how fundemental elements of what we
think a videogame needs COULD be broken down

I was working on this for some time and stopped around 2 months ago.
All that was really left was to finish off the last section of the context/commentary and pretty all of it up by putting it in a pdf and making it easier to read but I've lost my motivation to finish that off right now. So in the future I may do it but just in case I dont I am uploading it now.

the theme was what home means to you
i saw a lot more serious/narrative games this year
seems like a bad idea because people will probably "not go all the way"
or go part of the way just to be evocative
or to be real twee or whatever
though, some of the games that I had liked this year were the more heart warming ones
at home, when my family celebrates christmas,
we put a black santa on top of the tree
i found out recently that my grandma painted him black so he would look like my grandpa
these sprites are mostly color edited to look black
there is a history of black bart bootleg memorabilia
parallels with my black santa
in many of these shirts there will be multiple black barts all crowding around
sometimes all hitting on a woman with a big butt
one of my favorites was my former roommate's boyfriend's shirt that she would wear
it had multiples of different looking barts in a roller coaster
and it says "Bébé's Kids" which is a 90's animated comedy about a black family
that doesn't look anything similar to the simpsons
the sprites i edited are from the konami simpsons arcade beat em up
when the simpsons touch each other, sometimes they do their team attacks
i added a homer strangling bart animation
i was surprised this classic motif from the simpsons,
of homer strangling bart was not in the arcade game at all
i added this in place of having homer and bart's team attack
the sounds are primarily from click team fusion's free sound library
with the exception of a vocal recording of "fuck off mom"
