minigolf, but they're levels made from existing games, and they're only kinda minigolf

GT.jpg

so last night the gallery associated with my mfa art program put on a minigolf art show...

and in the pic at the top, you can see people at a table playing games. that's my stuff, i did a doom wad and a vvvvvv level loosely based on minigolf...

the vvvvvv level was done with the make and play edition, which is free. the regular vvvvvv is not.

"Enjoy! To distribute your level for other people to play, go find the .VVVVVV file in your Documents folder. (On windows, that should be in My Documents/VVVVVV, on Mac it's Documents/VVVVVV, on Linux ~/.VVVVVV). You can play other people's levels by copying files into this directory." here

here are other people's holes!

i do'nt kn=ow who did this )O:

krista raasch

-oh and the curvy photo in the main image is by jonathan bagby. the small blue one is by mandy keithly. i don't know who did the one in the corner.

i'm also including the doom stuff, but note that doom and doom ii are not free. but there is a thing called freedoom that is doom basically made from scratch, and you can use that. i want to put less emphasis on these doom files because not free stuff goes against the spirit of glorious trainwrecks, i think... even though the text here is longer for this than vvvvvv

the doom wad is called 'Minigolf, but the balls are rockets and the holes are flaming skulls of Doom"
it's a really easy set of 9 tiny levels, made mostly for people who aren't experienced at doom
i'm not posting it on the idgames archive because i want to try to make my wads pacifist. i just didn't have time to figure out how to do that because i made the 9 maps the day of the show

so what you're supposed to do is open the minigolf.pk3 file with doom (usually gzdoom or chocolate doom) and it should run. if not:
a. unzip the zip file
b. open minigolf 1.wad with doom 2
c. with minigolf 2.wad, it'll probably open up with the first doom level and not this map... so in this case, open up the console (~) and type "map map02" and it will take you there.
d. repeat with levels 3-9. "map map03", "map map04", etc.
yeah this is a mess and that's because there's not really any decent documentation on how to package .wads. i'm not very good at this kind of stuff quite yet. it's my first time releasing maps of any sort

i think when i have time, i'll try to figure it out proper.

the purpose of tinypack is to show appreciation to the humans referenced within.

it is also an attempt to broaden their audience so that they become rich even though i purposely chose people who put out free games. i will always encourage supporting them!!!!!!!

to play:

double-click tinypals.html or tinyghosts.html
it should open up in your default browser
they work best with the chrome or firefox.

controls:
arrow keys and wasd
r to restart
z to undo last move

anything that moves will only move when you do
pressing left or right to look around does not count as a turn
movement and objects exist on a grid

tinypals: you can take your time and enjoy !
tinyghosts: this is a game where you have to collect 6 items to win. if a ghost (anything that moves) moves into a space right next to you, you will start all over again. it’s more about strategy than action.

Night Custodian

nccc.jpg

Welcome to the nighttime custodial shift!

I know cleaning carpets doesn’t sound like the most exciting thing, but this is seriously best job! You’ll see. Life and school and things is stressful, so it’s really nice to come to work, listen to music and just vacuum.

We got all kinds of machines you’ll get to use. There’s the iCapsol for agitating the carpet. That’s after it been sprayed down with soap of course. And then there’s the Prowler, which sucks all the soap and water out of the carpet after we’ve scrubbed it. When you empty the water out of the Prowler, is the most digesting and satisfying color you’ll ever see. Trust me.

My favorite though is the Tennant. You’ll use it at the end of the shift. There are two speeds on the dial – turtle or rabbit. If the floor is extra dirty you’ll use turtle but for the most part rabbit is the way to go. But even on rabbit, it moves slower than you’ve ever walked in your whole life. Walk the slowest you can possibly walk, and then go even slower. That’s the Tennant on rabbit. I normally prop a book up on it and read while it goes. I read most of The Picture of Dorian Gray this way!

We’re lucky here because we have the best boss. Alvan. FYI he loves Pepsi, makes knives and will always remembers your birthday. And twice a year he throws a waffle party!

So, here’s your keys. You can hook them onto your belt loop. These will get you into most of the rooms in this building except for the super cool air duct room in the basement. But I’ll show you how to get into there later.

Ok, let’s go take a look at the scariest room in the building now, that way you’ll know where to be nervous while locking up alone.

-Natalie Wood

Use the W A S D keys for movement, and the mouse to look around. I'll make a video how to use these controls soon :)

Included below is a video walkthrough in case you aren't able to access this, or if the controls are too difficult, or for whatever reason.

A little explanation. I (quasiotter) am doing a monthly gallery show, and this is my friend Natalie's show. I think virtual spaces are super cool and I'm learning how to make them as "games." Okay.
