Oh yeah couple more things

Oh yeah couple more things

cos i cant be arsed to edit them into the main post:

1. the rules are optional. stick to them if you want but it doesnt matter. that said -
2. there is *one* rule i would like you guys to stick to. if two different people want to continue the same game, then that is fine. however, it can only be the two people. no more. oh, and to avoid it getting confusing, when you post it, add "( edition)". thanks.
3. you can post your unfinished games now, however, you may not start work on the game until it is december.
4. the reason why it's during december is because
a) im busy for the entirety of november (nanowrimo)
and
b) well, it wouldnt be the apocalypse game-a-thon without some kind of stupid urban legend thing mixed into it so yeah, why not have the 2012 urban legend in there.
5. i love you all

Interesting idea, I think I'll eventually submit Space Frankenstein vs. the Earthmen, since I don't think there's anything I can reasonably do with it that would satisfy me, since my initial game idea was way too complicated to implement in a reasonable amount of time.

KREUZZUG

(Made with Unity 3.5)

It was meant to be kind of like a shmup, but with space-sim-like controls (WASD and mouse) and a "frontline" which got pushed forward or backward depending on which "side" of the shmup corridor was winning.

This and more info about how I was planning to do stuff is in "design.rtf". As per the rules, feel free to completely disregard it.

Gangster Quest (KNP/Any Clickteam product)

Yep, it's the thing I used in the diagrams. This one was gonna be done during the 2SPOOKY kotm but that ended up not happening because YAY DISTRACTIONS.

The basic premise is that you are the "GOOD-GUY GANGSTER" and you FIGHT CRIME INSTEAD OF CAUSE IT. One day, ELVIS (Impersonator) and GOOD-GUY GANGSTER were in a TENNIS COURT one day and ELVIS (Impersonator) suddenly took off in the middle of the game with OLD WOMAN'S MONEY. You, as the GOOD-GUY GANGSTER, must find the ELVIS man and FIGHT HIM TO THE DEATH by CLIMBING HIS EVIL TOWER.

or, you know, you could just take the first few frames i have and continue from there with whatever story you like :3

Springy Sproingy -- A Knytt Story

Here's a game I made in Knytt Stories called Springy Sproingy. I believe it was made for Sergio's Short Timeframe Competition? Anyway, I used a lot of the spring objects (Bank 16, Object 1); the goal was to make a game where the player would be able to bounce along the whole map without touching the ground, if they didn't want and/or were good enough.
Tilesets used: Middling Morass by Bonemouse, Ickle Forest by Oft99.

Ragdoll Man

(Made with Game Maker 6, should be fairly compatible with later versions)

Seemingly from 2008. Have almost no recollection of making. Very little work done, only movement system is in place and frankly I would recommend scrapping that. Also included are two images from 2005 that seem to be related.

EDIT: ZIP updated to include internal art assets and executable. Now you can finish this even if you don't use Game Maker!

Jungle Gym: A Knytt Story

Jungle Gym is a playground level I think I started last year. I gave up on it because everything was centered to the left and I couldn't figure out how to get away from that. Maybe you can, though?

Tilesets used are Swamp Things by Sergio Cornaga, Grassland Ruins by Hauke Peterson, Quiescent Archipelago by AlmightyZenTaco, and Jungle Vines by Adelene. That last one might be tricky to use -- basically how you use the vines is that you pick one of the two far right, non-flowered vines, tile them on the third layer, and then tile a flowery vine under that (optional). If you want to tile the flowery vines underneath, you'll probably want to alternate between the two unflowered vines, since otherwise all of the flowers get stuck on one side. Sorry if this explanation was unclear. Have fun!

Potato Dark

Found this old .gam file on my hard drive if anyone wants to take it up. It's a buggy, single level stealth platform game with bizarre level design (laser turrets covering most of the walls, all of which fire horizontally when you get caught) and inexplicably themed as a potato-centric parody of Perfect Dark. It's made in The Games Factory 1, so no KNP compatibility, but it seems to import fine in MMF2/TGF2.

Controls: Arrows move/duck/climb. Shift jumps. Space interacts with keycards/doors/switches.

Ninja Guy

One of the first things I did when I started using GM was to make a basic platforming engine, and then add walljumping and a grappling hook and an omnidirectional Strider sword. I then obsessively tweaked the feel of the controls to make the raddest ninja game I could, and then realized I didn't know how to make decent graphics or level design or a point to the game at all. Here's an old game I was

Here's an old game I was working on in TGF1 at age... 12 I think? Basically I was inspired by the Java port I found of a game called "Sqrxz", which was a horizontally scrolling platform game involving puzzles with devious traps. (screenshot)

I wanted to make something sort of like Sqrxz except with a different theme. The result was Super Dot, a game where you played as a sentient gumdrop trying to make its way through an evil candy carnival of sorts, thwarting the evil gumdrops or something.

The game included gimmicks such as disappearing blocks, launch pads, and moving platforms. It also had four types of evil gumdrops: red gumdrops which were like goombas, green gumdrops that killed from all sides, blue gumdrops that bounced you really high, and purple gumdrops that were like green ones except they could bounce on the launch pads.

There's a tutorial level and then three main levels, the third one being about half-finished. Feel free to at least finish that one level and tack on an ending, but it would also be cool to see some totally new levels as well, perhaps introducing new gimmicks.

Here is one of my many many unfinished games. It was made with Game Maker 7 lite, using the GML-language.
It could pretty much be declared done as it is, but it's very boring. Feel free do do whatever you like with it and to it. My suggestion would be to make more enemy-types and levels. But its totally up to you. Maybe you just want to use the graphics or the music? Ok, then do that! It's your game now! Why do you even ask me! Stop staring at me! Just make the damn game, alright! "KAWAII REAPER"

And because I have so many more unfinished games, heres a second one for you. It was made in GM 6.1 (with gml). The idea for "kawaii reaper" was (as far as I can recall), that the player stumbles upon a small plastic box with a switch, and turns it on. Then the box flies into the air and starts bullet-helling kittens and weird toys onto the player. Japanese SHMUP-style, only that the player walks on platforms.
There are two images, which were designed as sprites for the "device". I have no idea what the japanese sings on them mean! I made them with google translate... any ideas?

You need the pro-version, because I'm rotating almost all of the sprites... stupid lite-restrictions! (If you don't have pro, GM6.1 only needed an activation key and there are plenty of them in the webz. I never told you that. I was never here.)

EDIT: added an executable and extracted all the sprites, so you don't need GM anymore.

BULLETBLADE

Here's a game I started on in 2009, when I played a lot of Sin & Punishment and wanted to make a top-down shooter but where you couldn't shoot bullets, you can only reflect them. I was going to have the player go room-to-room doing this (modeled after Legend of Zelda NES dungeons) and incorporate maybe some puzzles or something, but what I have here looks more like Space Invaders, which is also ok. In truth, I don't remember everything I wanted for this one.

This is in Game Maker 8.1. Maybe someone out there has it? The Lite version should probably be able to handle it. Actually, this is a slightly updated version. I'll attach a gmk that was made with... 7 I think, that has less stuff in it.

It's a very small template to work from, but the key mechanic is here. All the graphics are placeholders, clearly, there's no sound, limited interface, and so on. Background came from GIS. If you take this up, I encourage you to take it in the craziest direction you're inclined to and give it a total makeover. Take it wherever your heart wants to, if your heart wants to do anything with it at all. I'd love to see where this might go.

Gams.

This event prompted me to look through my KNP games folder. Some of the things there I don't even remember making, and I was positively impressed by one of those (32x), and will probably try and finish it. A few of the games seem like there's enough there to build something on, so I'll post them as replies to this comment.

I've downloaded the KNP games already posted, and am looking forward to fucking round with them.

Blueberry Soft's picture

KNP - Love Bubbles

Firstly: please change that awful name.

This is at least the third time I've made this game. I don't know why I tried again. It's a simple Pang type game: bubbles appear, you shoot one, it splits, destroy an increasing amount to move to the next stage. You would probably want to mess with the mechanics, or this would be a pretty dull thing to finish. The graphics are okay, but unfinished.

KNP - My Little Pony

I think I made this before I knew there was a new My Little Pony show, because I can't imagine wanting to use the name now.

It's a horizontal shooter starring a regularly firing, 360 degree rotatable, horse archer, and a MIDI version of Young Turks[/]i. Could be neat, especially if the horse jumps. Some of the scrolling needs fixing. [i]Or does it...

Ascenso (Flash)

It might be too involved for this, but in case anyone wants it, here's a Flash game (FlashDevelop project) I started a good while ago. It was supposed to be a goalless, non-guided sort of thing in which you explore all possible interactions, using the mouse. It uses Google Images to get random pictures and it displays them scrolling and hue-shifted, while you move the mouse around and click on things and stuff happens. As it stands right now, all you can do is shake the mouse to see bubbles come up, click on a bubble to paint, triple-click to get a butterfly to show up, click on a butterfly to deform the background.

Here you can try out what's there of it: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/5603650/games/ascenso.swf

Download the FlashDevelop source here: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/5603650/games/ascenso.zip

You're completely free to turn this into a visual novel, racing game, or whatever thing that strays from the original idea, if you do pick it up.

agj's picture

Blobs (Flash)

Another one that's kinda involved. I actually made this because I thought it'd be amusing to program these blobs that react to the movement of the mouse, and then tried to make a game out of it, but failed. It's kinda pretty to look at but not much else. There's a supposed scoring system in there maybe? The game plays like so: you have to clear the screen of the blobs by clicking on them, but to do so you're forced to click on more than one simultaneously, because each click creates one new blob. Anyway, if you like, grab this and make something cool with it?

Play what's there of it: http://www.agj.cl/stuff/games/blobs/

Space Invader: A Prequel Story

From August 2009, written in AS3.

It's like Space Invaders, but there's only one massive one and you're shooting pixels off him...

Needs: sfx, lives, game over conditions.

I wanted to have several stages like a boss battle, so the first stage would be what's here, but then he reforms and starts shooting lasers from his eyes, etc.

From July 2010, made in AS3 with FlashPunk.

Idea: make a game that uses the McCollough effect. This is particularly appealing because the effect can last for ages. Ideal scenario: user sees the black&white start screen, plays for an hour, then quits and sees it's now it's in colour woah what's going on.

Watching Terry Cavanagh Sleep

From August 2012, made with AS3 and FlashPunk.

Graphics by Cap'n Lee (@tweetleewhat)

You have to bounce the spiders into a sleeping Terry Cavanagh's orifices.

Couldn't work out what the actual gameplay should be. Score attack? Time limited? And not sure if the current one-button controls work.

Additional potential orifices: eyes, ears, hair (okay not technically an orifice but I'm sure the spiders would be very happy to live there)

Wanted the ending to be a bunch of baby spiders all swarming down from the web above onto his face, covering him entirely in swarming blackness. Then his eye opens, he screams, and they all swarm into his mouth. Alternative similarly-horrific endings accepted.

Wanted there to be a physics-y web above him that the spiders come from, which would move as the player's bouncing tugs at it, which in turn would shake the strands from the previous spiders. Not important.

Disco Devil's Dance Drills

This is a game about a caveman in disco hell navigating an invisible maze on an endless dance floor. It's playable, but it doesn't really make any sense. Written in javascript using EnchantJS. It's on github if that's easier for you, and you can fool around with it there too.

The original idea was that the Disco Devil would appear and talk to you. Since the way it works is that different colored tiles behave differently, you'd initially know how some of them worked, but then each stage some would change. I couldn't figure out how to have it make sense or give it any kind of completion (see how far you can get in a time limit? Minimize deaths?) so I left it as it is.

Timequake

Flixel (AS3) action game prototype. It uses an old version of both Flixel (included) and the Ogmo Editor (.oep file included). Here are five levels, and an epilogue of sorts. It's mostly missing sounds, sprites for the enemies that aren't exactly the player sprite, and whatever else you'd want to add.

Current version: http://noyb.retroremakes.com/Games/Timequake.swf

Arrows move. C draws/holsters gun. X shoots when your gun is out. You can't walk while crouched or aiming.

Spoilers/Intentions (feel free to disregard): I meant this to be a Max Payne parody, where the gung-ho detective finds out that all of the guards he was slaughtering were just innocent people, as he's made to relive the game over again. It's a similar conceit to what nobody's These Automatic Arms ended up doing independently. But the plot grew too large in my mind (wanting long cutscenes establishing motivation, a second epilogue where you play as a never-implemented end boss, hearing the slaughter going on in real time based on the saved replay data, etc.) and I ended up not doing a damn thing more than you see here.

I'm not sure you quite

I'm not sure you quite understand the whole point of the event.

It isn't a competition or anything, it's a chance for any unfinished games you have to get finished basically.

You post your unfinished game in the comments, wait around for a bit and hope someone picks it up, if someone does pick it up then they finish up the game itself and post it.

It isn't an event for just completing your own games yourself and posting them. Try the KOTM.

I did not start the program I just improved it
the creator did not suspect a trainwreck...

no objections to the program design then?

wat say?

Puyoshooter

Alright here's a game in Flash i never finished. Making combos in puyo side would get you powerups on shipside and being hit on shipside would add more blocks to puyo side.

Juni in the Underground: a Knytt Story

I think I started this for a Klik of the Month or something? Well, anyway, it's my attempt at making an Antsy-esque ambling around story. It didn't work out very well, so I'm leaving it to one of you guys to finish. Tilesets by Nifflas.

Going Mobile: A Knytt Story

This one is named after a song by The Who! It was made for Purple Pineapple's "Motion" Competition. In it Juni must go home to her family for some reason I have forgotten. I'm not real happy with the ship section (for one, I think it's technically possible, though unlikely, to be passed without double jump; for two, it's pretty tedious), so feel free to change that if you want to.

Tilesets are by Egomassive, Arcturus, Imaddo, Nifflas, AlmightyZenTaco, Firecat, Ripen, and Lingon.

Rainy Days and Mondays: A Knytt Story

Paul Williams this time around. Rain by Ghormak was a big inspiration for this rainy day level, obviously, but it also owes a lot to a level called Raining by Pearl. They're both on the big level archive if you want to check them out. Tilesets by Nifflas and Imaddo.

It was a super cool idea, and of course if anyone is still working on stuff and wants to post it, that is awesome, but I think it's time to call this one finished.
