what the fuck just happened? why does it have so many views? I'm just really confused about that. I am wondering if someone talked about it on a blog or somewhere like seriously where do all those people come from? I just don't get it.

Unpoker

An attempt to remove the randomness from poker. @mcclure111 gets some of the idea credit.

This is the game, right here:
Each player has one standard deck of playing cards. For each hand, every player secretly draws a five-card hand from their own deck. Three rounds of betting occur, with each player progressively revealing one card of their choice between rounds. After the final round, all unfolded players reveal their remaining two cards and the hand is resolved. Hands are discarded after use, without revealing any still-hidden cards. Memory aids for played cards are allowed, and should be included in computerized implementations. All other rules are the same as standard poker.

On the 23rd, a gamemaking duel was held on the TIGSource Forums, with the theme being "Demakes in Klik'n'Play".
And thus, two glorious trainwrecks saw the light of day...

Fun Ship is a demake of Messhof's Party Boat, made by me(genericuser).

I Kill All is a demake of Error-Free Software's Tapan Kaikki, made by Stargoat from the forums.

WARNING: Download these at your own risk; they may be dangerous to your health, your general sanity, and your pets.

Oh and if Fun Ship has wacky Greek text, just copy "Commodore 64.ttf" to "C:|Windows|Fonts".

Polyfurcation

The mechanics of this game appeared fully-formed in my head while half asleep one morning last week. I've been spending every spare moment working on it since.

Seriously this is the best game I've ever worked on. (EDIT: upon a few minutes reflection, I've realised that no, Putt-Putt is way better. But this is still really good.) So much potential. You should play it and tell me what you think of it so far.

It is a game about dudes on a grid that need to get to a goal, except you can create more or less dudes by passing them through blocks larger than one square.

I have four sets of levels that I'm calling "worlds". The first world is a set of 4 "this is how the game works" levels. The second world is a set of 3 "mazey" levels, which are good. The third world is a set of 3 levels involving enclosed squares, which act as crazy traps from which your dudes can never escape. These levels are also pretty good. The fourth world is a set of 3 mediocre levels about building weird shapes. I don't think these are very interesting, but I am very interested to hear what your experiences with them are like.

4 years ago minus 1 month there were messages in altgamez...

suddenly out of nowhere the sharecart jam became a REALITY..... how did this occur?? the only way to defeat the sharecart jam and send it back to the hypothetical realm is to make a sharecart game within a measly 365 days.. good luck...

sharecart is a thing where games made with sharecart have a specific save file structure that is compatible with all other sharecart games, even though the data therein is not necessarily interpreted the same... which is part of the fun. play one game and have it save, then use that same save file on another game and see whatever effect it might have. this page explains it better than we can.

sharecart module for lua and love2d: https://github.com/alts/sharecart.lua
if you're using luajit/love2d you may want to take a look at the bitop module to make the most use out of misc0-3 (16 bits per misc)

(also, mapX and mapY holding up to 1024 values is a lot if you interpret them to refer to individual rooms (e.g. a zelda-like or knytt-like game), especially if you want higher values of mapX/mapY from other sharecart games to do something in your game... will you procedurally generate 1024x1024 rooms? will you have rooms outside of the defined map boundaries be random noise? will you cause invalid room values to point to a random valid room value when loaded? perhaps mapX and mapY correspond to tiles? will invalid mapX/mapYs simply cause the game to say "invalid save data"? or is there a much more sensible possibility entirely that we missed???)

SECRET PROJECT STATUS

  1. Hand-wrote a naive recursive descent expression parser on a houseboat without any internet access and then wondered why it was so buggy.
  2. Spent the next week tweaking it and getting increasingly frustrated.
  3. Not much else :(
