Vaudeville & Sword

The Dark Lord Ultradeath has come to this mortal plane to watch a vaudeville show. If the show doesn't go over well, he will end the world. To make matters worse, the music hall is infested with monsters, and most of the performers are missing! As a hired sword, it is your job to clear the monsters, find the performers, and make sure that the show goes smoothly...

Music was made by Claire Schroeder (thanks again Claire!).

Made with RPG Maker 2003.
Usual RPG Maker controls: Z, X, and arrow keys. Please let me know if the installer doesn't work or whatnot.

Created for the 2021 Sekret Santa Jam for fizzhog! I hope you like it!

Thanks so much for this - I

Thanks so much for this - I loved it! Great job on getting my whole wishlist into the game; the characters' skills were especially good. Loved the graphics and the music. I've messed around myself with RPG Maker on and off but never got around to finishing anything with it; the way you managed to fit an entertaining story into such a short game has inspired me to want to have another go. That final fight is quite tough - or is it just me who is a bit rubbish at those kind of fights? I found that by grinding for restoring items for a little while I could get through it. All round a wonderful Klikmas gift so thanks again!

I'm glad you enjoyed it!

I'm glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for your kind words.

The final fight is probably harder than I intended, so it's not you. My goal was to make him feel more threatening than the other enemies, but I may have gone a liiiittle too overboard. I'm glad you were able to get the resources needed to beat him! I also just realized that it's possible to play the game without ever seeing the shopkeep in the bottom-left corner of the lobby, so if you missed him, ha ha, woops, that's my bad.

Designing and implementing each party member's moveset was one of my favorite bits of designing this. Due to time constraints, I aaaalmost opted to use default RPG Maker battle animations, but I'm so glad that I didn't. Throwing an actual pen at a monster and running over a dragon with an actual jpeg of a bus feels really good.
