Okay the verdict is in. Now it's official: I'm insane. I've tested this game WITH headphones still you should consider yourself warned: The music is... I don't even...certainly doesn't sound like Skyrim but whatever. Every time I whistle the Skyrim theme it ends up sounding like Pirates of the Caribbean anyways so whatever

btw this game doesn't contain arrows nor knees. sorry

KNPUtil v1.0

OK, it's about time I released this stuff!

KNPUtil is a collection of 3 utilities for fiddling with Klik & Play games:

  1. knpextract: a tool for extracting resources from Klik & Play games
  2. knpgen: a tool for generating random "screenshots" from resources extracted from Klik & Play games
  3. knpmangle: a tool for generating new Klik & Play games from old Klik & Play games by messing with their resources

KNPExtract and KNPGen have been released before. This release brings much improved image loading times to both tools, as well as support for 16-bit images. KNPExtract also now can generate animated GIFs from animations, extract sounds and music, and provide meaningful filenames to everything it extracts.

Detailed usage instructions are in the readme. The tools are all designed to do something cool if you drag Klik & Play games onto the EXEs from Windows, but KNPMangle especially rewards a deeper understanding of its commandline options.

If you're getting error messages when you try to run the EXE, you may need to install the Visual C++ 2008 Runtime from Microsoft.

Enjoy!

For Alraune: Skatefarmer

Game File (Linux):

A game featuring a requiem, a skateboard, a seed, a sunrise, a spirit, and a pomegranate. The spirits will provide instructions in-game.

Give it some time to start. The OGG Vorbis decoder is really slow for some reason.

Hope you enjoy, Alraune!

$400+ RPG Making Competition at 64digits.com

Banner by LAR Games

LINK TO COMPETITION

On Tuesday the 1st of May 2012, at 0:00am GMT, you will have three months to make an RPG (see Rules for details).

You must then submit your RPG by Wednesday the 1st of August 2012, at 0:00am GMT, after which the winners will be decided.

This will be the grand finale of Competition Four Digits 2011/2012, a competition three times longer than any other in the year!

RULES:
1. The aim of the competition is to develop entirely your own game within the time limit (1st May - 1st August). You MUST submit your final game before the 1st of August 2012. You will have to keep up to date with my blog posts to find out how to submit your final game.
2. You MUST have stated you are going to enter before the 1st of May 2012.
3. You MUST NOT include anything in the game that you don't have full permission to use or significant amounts of game content that you had already made prior to the competition.
4. Your final game MUST have "RPG elements", specifically relating to the gameplay (eg anything such as experience points, inventories, quests, turn-based combat, etc. Fantasy themes and long storylines are common in RPGs, but not related to the gameplay).
5. There are no programming language/game engine restrictions except that the game MUST run on Windows 7. Your game shouldn't require additional software installation (unless you really need to do so).
6. Don't be a cheater.
7. ONE entry per person, maximum team of FOUR.
8. I reserve the right to update or otherwise change the rules and to disqualify any entrant who breaks the rules.
