This is a bit late! But I've been waiting for the right combination of free time and inspiration.
Although i am not sure if you would classify it as breakout.
Another one of my Breakanoid riffs. This time you are the ball! Steering by tapping the left and right keys, striking the bottom will lose you time.
I will probably do a more considered game with all these experiments when I'm finished.
I've been kind of awful this month so all I have is a quick ROM hack of Gridball, an old game of mine. Instead of a paddle-and-ball game, this is now a Snake-like game very similar to Poing! by Rick Holzgrave, and also very similar to DragBall and, to a lesser extent, TrailblaZer.
Click in front of the moving ball to place a block. The ball will turn 90 degrees at the block depending on the ball's colour. The computer-controlled paddle at the bottom can change the ball's colour if the ball hits it. You can also click on an existing block to remove it.
Keep your eye on the ball as the cups shuffle, click once they're finished and see if you've won. Art by Kiki Snell.

Made in 6 hours with Tululoo Game Maker!
THIS IS A TWO-PLAYER TENNIS GAME LIKE YOU'VE NEVER SEEN TWO-PLAYER TENNIS GAMES BEFORE. BEHOLD ITS EXTREME MAXIMUM VELOCITIES! BEHOLD ITS EXTREME FAIRNESS TO BOTH PLAYERS! IT IS EXTREME AND IT'S EXTREME DIGITAL TENNIS FRIENDS!
FOR TWO PLAYERS! NOT THREE! THREE'S A CROWD!
This is inspired by my previous game, Gridball. As the ball in this game moves at a fixed speed in only cardinal directions, you have to prevent it from hitting the dangerous terrain by dragging nearby bricks into its path. But when it hits a brick, it turns 90 degrees and destroys the brick, so you'll need to deploy them carefully and quickly!
