03/27/2010 - 18:00
03/27/2010 - 20:00
Etc/GMT-5

On Saturday, March 27 at 4 PM Pacific, join us for a special Knytt Stories hoedown! You will be provided, free of charge, with TWO HOURS to create your very own Knytt Stories level from scratch.

Never used the Knytt Stories editor before? No problem! Download Knytt Stories here. (If you've never played it before, give the tutorial or bundled level a go to get a feel for how the game works.) The editor comes included, and a good way to learn to use it is by cracking open existing levels and poking at them to see how they work. This guide is also recommended reading.

Join us on IRC for camaraderie, support and merrymaking! Point your favourite IRC client to #glorioustrainwrecks on irc.freenode.net, or use our handy-dandy in-browser chat here.

Upload your level here when it's done!

(And remember: don't eat the mushroom.)

Birthday Cake

title.png
Game File:

You are a birthday cake. It is somebody's birthday. You must serve yourself to the guests at the party.

Move around with the arrow keys or WASD. During the intro you can only move left or right. During gameplay, you can only push the cake in a specified direction for a limited amount of time, which is reset every time you collide with a guest. You will otherwise bounce around by your own momentum.

Each guest can eat up to three pieces of cake, at which point they will leave because they are full. When you fall off the bottom of the screen, the game is over and you will be taken to the ending, which will include a tally of your score.

Credits are available inside a text file in the download.

THE GAME IDEA GENERATOR MAYHEM EVENT
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For this event, i want YOU to make a game. But not just any regular game, no, but a game with its concept designed by a software i have programmed. Just by the click of a button, you receive some precious information I WANT your game to have. You can download this masterpiece HERE (extract the .rar file 'cause i can't upload .exe)

This pile of crap was programmed by me with Visual Basic (I ain't no programmer, ok?) here's a screenshot:

ISN'T IT WORDERFUL?

Here are some rules:

  1. Your game MUST follow the information that the software gives, BUT, you can freely disregard of one of the subjects (Protagonist, Antagonist, Weapon...);
  2. You MUST NOT disregard the Objective subject; EDIT: If you disregard the weapon subject, i'll be sad! ):
  3. If you really LOATHE the KNP's clipart/image library, feel free to disregard the protagonist and antagonist subjects (they're basically only KNP characters);
  4. Feel free to use ANY game-making software you want. Klik & Play, The Games Factory, Multimedia Fusion, Game Maker, Construct, Java, Delphi, Python, Lua, XWE, DOS, Paper, Rock, anything.
  5. If you feel like your game's concept's shitty, you may generate the concept again, and again, and again!
  6. Also, feel free to upload your game even before the timeline, if you need, or want. I just want you to do what i want.

When you're done making your game, upload it HERE!

GO THERE! ON YOUR FEET!

Godfrey Ho Games

From the TIGSource forums:

"So, I've had an idea for a side-project I've been wanting to try for a while. For those who don't know, Godfrey Ho was a Hong Kong Z-Grade kung-fu director who would take unreleased asian movies, splice in scenes of white guys dressed as ninjas, and release the new frankenmovie to a world-wide audience.

"I want to apply his cut-and-paste technique to games. And that's where you come in. Do you have any unfinished and abandoned projects that you're willing to part with? Send them to me and I'll hastily fill in any missing pieces with ninjas and 80s style cheese."-- Alec S. (malec2b)

Looks like he's taking Flashpunk, Unity, and Game Maker games. The first of these games was just released, and certainly in the trainwreck spirit:

Worker & Parasite: The Game

CHEATING AT KLIK OF THE MONTH: PART I

Back in June, inspired by Silly Family and the Museum of Soviet Arcade Games, I set out to make a fake arcade game adaptation of Worker and Parasite. Things were looking good. Unfortunately, they weren't playing good, so I removed all the gameplay and sent the art asset filled Game Maker file to my original inspiration, rhetoricstu. This is what we created.

Mark Gobbin provided the music, a remix of Jonkvrouwe by Goto80.

Pest Control in Space

PestControlInSpace.png

My first (last?) Batari Basic game.

You are Harry the Space Bug Exterminator. You know how to exterminate just about any intergalactic pest. You even have your own custom space ship for clearing out some of the more... problematic infestations, and no hive is too big for you to handle. Maybe.

Seems like the New Horizons Space Life Megacorporation just hired you to take a look at their bug problem. They claim that space station residents are mysteriously disappearing, and they suspect it has something to do with that giant space wasp nest that's been forming around the exterior. You don't like the look of it, but somebody's gotta try and take care of it.

Notes:

- You can destroy the hive and bees more quickly the closer you get to them, but if you don't leave yourself at least some distance you'll put yourself in great danger.
- Don't try to fly to the right of any bees unless there's an emergency. Once they notice that they've passed you they will try to ram into you.
- Clearing out individual rows of the hive will make the bee spawn location more predictable. Use this to your advantage.

You'll probably want Stella to play this on. Or I guess you could get it running on a real Atari 2600.
