Klik of the Month Klub #92 "Better Late than Never! 2": Better Late Forever

Sat, Feb 28 2015 07:00 PM
02/28/2015 - 19:00
02/28/2015 - 21:00
Etc/GMT-7

This is going to be a Klik Team or otherwise jam. That means, preferably use something Click Team... or use something else. Just make a game.

The Klik of the Month Klub meets right here on this very website on the third Saturday of every month at 4pm Pacific Time (taking daylight savings into consideration) for a two hour Klik & Play Showdown. Everyone who participates gets two hours to create something from scratch in Klik & Play. Abusing the stock objects is encouraged. If you really loathe Klik & Play you can use whatever game development platform you want. Two hours is a pretty tight time limit, though, so choose wisely!

add your game by clicking 'post' over in the sidebar <-----

The official theme is "forgetting". You can also do the official unofficial theme "accumulation". You can also do both for extra points!

Sam the Shovel in: Shocking Superglue Shenanigans!

sam_the_shovel.png
Game File:

The year is 1993. You are on Earth, but not the one more famously known. Today in your 12th grade Electronics 102 class, you're finding yourself bored of petty lightbulbs connected to tomatoes projects and have gone off searching the depths of the circuitry closet. Under a heapful of dust, you find a box declaring itself the holder of something known as the "MunsterBox", some kind of home entertainment "computer". What the heck is a computer? Might as well ask the teacher!

"Oh, that old thing, ha ha! MunsterBox, yes, I remember putting in the request for it on the school budget, as I figured it'd be a revolution in educational tools. Unfortunately, it ended up being a real bust, both my request and the whole 'computer' idea itself. It took several years for me to be granted the purchase, but by then the world had well known how useless and clunky this awful thing is."

You ask what is so bad about it. If it was so worthless it would have been recycled by now, right?

"Ah, I suppose I kept it for the same reason I keep all of the experimental relics laying around. You see, the MunsterBox can't do anything by itself. As you've been learning, normal electronic devices allow anybody to modify the entire structure at will, in a hands-on approach. This 'computer' requires you to buy separate, expensive cartridges that you need to shove into it. And what's more, almost every 'program' for it required special hardware extensions to even function!"

Oh, well that sucks. You guess it really is useless. You say you might as well put it back in the circuitry closest, and cover it up with dust again.

"Hm, you could do that, or you could open it up and see if you can get it running yourself. I've noticed your restlessness with the curriculum, so I don't have any qualms with letting you dive into more advanced areas. The manual for the MunsterBox is missing, but I'm sure you'll be able to figure it out. This model came with some kind of 'edutainment' program, it should be in the box somewhere. Good luck!"

You decide to tackle the challenge of the unknown, and start trying to piece together all the plastic screws, wires, and covered circuit boards that will hopefully become the forgotten "computer". After a few hours, having forgotten to move on to a different class because of your focus, you manage to put it together reasonably well, and find an outlet that accepts the battery plug.

Shaking it to remove embedded dust from years of neglect, you eagerly but carefully slide in the cartridge for "Sam the Shovel: Shocking Superglue Shenanigans!". This really must be old, you remember seeing re-runs of that cartoon as a kid! You push the "on" button, and watch the screen light up with a fantastic display of 2^8 colours, along with speakers blasting out 4-bit audio. What an interesting device... Now, how does one begin running the program?

KlikVoxel: a KnP flightsim

klikvoxel.gif

I've been in a kick of doing strange things with KnP lately. I'm working on a 2vs2 stealth action game (that requires a large piece of cardboard to enforce split screen exclusivity) and I'm probably going to finish up that HUGE KNP TECHNOLOGY BREAKTHROUGH that I've been none-too-subtly alluding to during nearly every single KOTM. But what I have here today is not that breakthrough, but rather something incredibly impractical in KnP, done for the heck of it!

I had recently seen a simple demonstration of the new version of flash drawing an isometric voxel landscape. Since I've never done anyting with voxels before, it struck me as to how simple it really was. After the idea sat in my head for a while, I decided to try the effect myself. On a whim I decided to do it in KnP. I showed it to someone once I got it to render a single static landscape. They helpfully suggested I make a flightsim. So a few events later I had a scrolling isometric voxel landscape flightsim in klik! Since it hits the active object limit almost from the start, it's a little on the small size. Press fire to keep the joust-like plane aloft! Watch out for clouds, their cold air will stall your plane!

(you can edit change or whatever just playing around ^^) i watched you type that in realtime and it's funny lol it's almost as if it's kinda an mmo lol YES (is gdocs a video game? [thinking emoji but it messed this up lol])
time frame: august 1-30 2019

hi i don't know how to make tabletop games / RPGs / LARPs / etc. so i wanna try. i mean i've played monopoly and go fish but i never had friends who were into physical games?? seems like a lot of people did but i usually play games to avoid people lol

so i somehow stumbled upon this thread about tabletop/physical games and it piqued my interest. i haven't really started trying them, so i wanted to make some of my own before i knew too much!

being that gt is a mostly-digital space made me wanna do this even more!! think about how most of us aren't around each other physically and how we can use that framework to our advantage! or maybe it would be cool to make a game that requires meeting with a remote gt'er irl even if that's years from now (or never??)??? Wow

okay optional challenge?? different weeks are different types?
week 1 make a card game , week 2 will be LARPs, week 3 board games, week 4 RPGs
also it's cool if the more you make the better???? i(quasiotter) will try to make one everyday (but im going to bundle them, so day7 of week 1 ill have a bundle of the cardsgames)

the cool thing about physical games is that you can use literally anything in the universe as pieces. you don't even need pieces! you can make a physical game that just uses the human body. Ninja is a good example of this (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ninja_(playground_game)) but yeah go nuts. everything is a piece and a playing surface, including your cat and the space at your local park and that toy car you found lying half-buried in the gravel on your walk home one time and the front window at the 7/11 down the street (maybe ask first (or dont))

Please eat some beans

I miss emoji reaction things i would thumbs up a lot

thanks to &t and ??? for contributing!!

PS there were more gifs but i couldn't find them or know how to save them from the google doc if you made one please send the image url to me so i can put it here! also if you just wanna add mroe i can do that too lol also i don't know who to credit for contributing to this lmk lol

Mathora VI

Man, I'm kind of proud of yesterday's efforts. It was supposed to be a two-hour gag game but I've ended up with some not-too-awful randomly-generated first-person dungeon crawling action that shits on the pillow of Mr. TOO MANY OBJECTS.

The 2009-2010 Shame Collection!

t20092010sc poster.png

This is my first game to contain games made with Game Maker.

Are you bored? Do you hate the present games (for joke)? Well, not late, there's a collection of badly made games in Game Maker: The 2009-2010 Shame Collection! This game contains over 20+ games with annoying levels, poor grammar, ridiculous story, misplaced music, etc. made around 2 years: the 2009 and the 2010, which doubles the fun! The more you play these, the more you will get ridiculous fun! Plus there's a bonus feature which will let you get excited: THE ENCLOSED BONUS PACK! But it is locked with a hidden password, find out more by reading the readme of the locked bonus pack.

05/22/2010 - 20:00
Etc/GMT-5

It's almost the fourth Saturday of the month, which is when we have our monthly Knytting circle. Make a Knytt Stories level in 2 hours! Alternatively, make something else in 2 hours. It's up to you, really.

Don't know what Knytt Stories is? Then download it here. You can play the tutorial and bundled level to get a feel for how Knytt Stories plays. The editor comes with the game. A good way to learn how to use it is to poke around existing levels to see how they work. This guide is also a good way to learn the basics. Don't forget to check out the Knytt Stories Recommended Reading List either!

Join us on IRC for more fun and good times. You can use the in-browser chat here, or you can point your favorite IRC client to #glorioustrainwrecks on irc.freenode.net.

Upload your level here when it's done!

Dungeons: Ace Alpha

screen5.png

The world is in peril.

Countless aeons ago, the forces of darkness were sealed away from the world, hidden in the ancient Titan's Complex. Now, the seal is weakening, and it's up to you to put an end to the madness once and for all.

Journey into the forgotten depths, and conquer the ancient Dungeon.

Features:

The Rune System - craft equippable runes, which influence stats and abilities
180 Skills - 12 groups of six offensive, six defensive, and three special abilities based around themes
Challenging encounters to test your RPG skill
    ATB System
Two modes - Classic Mode and Puzzle Mode
    An OST in the making

The Rune System
You can use the crafting system to turn items and weapons from the dungeon into raw materials - Magic Tears, Fire Tears, Ice Tears, and Lit Tears. These tears can then be used to create new weapons and armor, as well as runes.

Runes grant your characters new abilities to use in battle, as well as influence their stats as they level up. After Dungeon Level 5, you'll gain the ability to create Runes.

See it in action here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eFmWJ_HP8VY

Loads of Skills
180 unique skills. Find the proper balance for your characters and create synergy with your team!

Here's just a few of them:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T57y_mIsbis

Challenging Encounters
Just an example here: This is the floor 5 boss (video from an early version: it looks better in final). Each of your characters have a few innate skills - and this boss tests your mastery of those skills:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_FyrD0GxJzQ&feature=youtu.be

ATB System
Taken to its logical conclusion: as well as the basic charge-bar, get action, you also have characters that can interrupt opponents ATB bars as well as skills that uses all of your teammate's ATB.

Classic and Puzzle Mode
Classic's similar to how the other Dungeons releases went: descend through a randomly generated dungeon, getting powerups throughout. Puzzle mode's different: More of a static dungeon, similar to what you'd find in any RPG like Dragon Quest. Multiple scenarios in Puzzle Mode, it's more of a side quest to Classic.

OST
In the making; where tracks haven't yet been composed, some placeholders will be used. Here's a few examples:

Title Theme
Creation

Demo Version Now Availible
Note that due to its incomplete status, floors aren't random and the crafting system isn't fully implemented.
