clone of sleepy boy clone

Game File (Linux):
Game File (Mac):

This is a clone of gurnburial's 'sleepy boy clone' which itself is a clone of mkapolk's 'sleepy boy' game.
You can quit when you want but you cannot leave.

Sleepy Boy Clone: https://www.glorioustrainwrecks.com/node/12190
Sleepy Boy: https://www.glorioustrainwrecks.com/node/11189

This was a very meditative process. I'm not sure how faithful it is to the original as I only looked at gurnburial's version while making this and I had to try to get it done in under a day. Unfortunately I couldn't get the movement working quite right and also the boxes don't have the right bounciness. But I still learned quite a bit and had a magical time doing this sleepy boy rush. I can highly recommend making a sleepy boy clone or clone-clone for yourself!!

Twine macro: << replace >>, << insert >> and << continue >>

Similar to my <<timedreplace>> macro, this macro creates an internal link that, when clicked, vanishes and is replaced with whatever is between the << replace >> and << endreplace >> tags. This could be useful if (just for starters) you want to have a passage that can be modified by clicking specific details inside it.

Variations:
* You can also use <<insert>>, which is identical but does not remove the link text, instead merely changing it to a bare <span> (as with Jonah's <<choice>> macro.)
* You can use <<continue>> to make all subsequent text appear when it's clicked. It does not need an <<endcontinue>> at the end! Quite useful when you just need the reader to click to continue the passage.
* You can insert <<becomes>> or <<gains>> tags inside the contained text to create multiple "versions" of the replacement text. Clicking the link will display each successive version, stopping only when the last version is reached.
* If you omit the text in the starting tag, then the first "version" will be used as the link instead. This lets you, for instance, make an image into a replaced link. Of course, this requires that multiple <<becomes>> or <<gains>> tags are within the text.

Install my <<Replace>> Macro Set to use this macro.

Usage examples:
You see <<replace "a half-eaten cake">>a plate of crumbs<<endreplace>>
You see <<replace "ten dollars">>five dollars<<becomes>>two dollars<<becomes>>fifty cents<<endreplace>>
You see <<replace>>a //big// boulder!<<becomes>>some pebbles.<<endreplace>>
I find it <<insert "repugnant">>that he's made such comments<<endinsert>>.
You go outside. <<continue "Next.">>The sun blinds you momentarily.<<continue "Next.">>Has it been so long?

A short example program.
Hot hint: if you've got a lot of text, it's good to just put a single << display >> inside a << replace >>, and put the text in a separate passage.

Some notes:
* Code inside << replace >> tags is only executed when you click the link. You may notice that the "mailbox" link in the example program produces different text if you click the "front door" link first.
* If inserted text appears and descends below the bottom of the screen, the page should automatically scroll down to make it visible.
* Note: due to the way the browser and Twine interact, any changes made by code inside a <<timedreplace>> tag will be forgotten if you use the Back or Forward browser buttons, unless you use this script.

For a more powerful version of this macro, see <<revision>>.

Version history:
* 16-6-2013: Updated regarding Combined Replace Macro Set.
* 26-4-2013: Added << continue >> variant.
* 5-4-2013: Added << insert >> variant, scrolling.
* 7-3-2013: Added CSS hooks.
* 28-1-2013: Initial.
Feel free to report any bugs to @webbedspace.

Portal 2 ARG: The Videogame

p2vrg.png
Game File:

Are YOU a nerd? Do YOU want to perform repetitive time-consuming tasks in order to feel like you're part of some kind of community 'happening'? Can YOU think of nothing better to do with your time than to stress over whether a game that has taken 4 years to make will be released this week or next week? You should probably go and take part in the Portal 2 ARG!

But what's that you say? You don't own any of the games? Your internet connection is unreliable? You hate real-world metagames and only engage in play within videogames? Well I have good news for you: the Portal 2 ARG has now been adapted into a HOME VIDEOGAME!

WATCH as a status bar gradually ticks down to the game's release date!
CLICK on potatos (haha! HOW WHIMSICAL!) to hasten the bar's progress!
ASK yourself why you bothered this time next week when you could have finished the game anyway!

SRSX

I found this while searching for DJ Nastyman's eccentric klik games. I couldn't find any, which is a shame. :( But this is sort of a nice consolation. Download it here.

The controls, from what I could make out of the event editor when loading it in Klik & Play: (turn numpad on)

7,8,9,0 -- select inventory

CTRL -- use inventory

Also, be sure to enable sound since it has voicework.

(Edit: I guess some Nastyman games are still around, just not the adventure games SRSX is referencing.)

Semester's End Klik of the Month Klub: SpindleyQ Forgot Edition

04/26/2014 - 16:00

Etc/GMT-7

So it would seem that somehow, SpindleyQ forgot to tell KlikBot to make Klik of the Month Klub #82. This hasn't been the first time that a KotMK somehow wasn't posted, but hopefully it'll be the last!

Instead, I'd like to fill in the gap with a stand-in Klik of the Month Klub. This one is happening on the Saturday after, and may or may not coincidentally also happen to be around the time that the current semester is over for some people!

So go ahead and make a game, and when you're done, post it here!

OnEscapee

A platformer inspired by Flashback and Another World. (See also: Between Heaven and Hell)

I saw this mentioned on HG101 a while ago and bookmarked it, but didn't bother to download and install until this weekend. OnEscapee is a 1997 Amiga CD release that was ported to PC and made freeware in 2004. Someone YouTube'd the entire game -- about two hours in total.

I'm having a hard time with it. The player control is slow, and the levels can get pretty mean. At least there are plenty of death animations.

OUCH!
