The Klik of the Month Klub meets right here on this very website on the third Saturday of every month at 4pm Pacific Time (taking daylight savings into consideration) for a two hour Klik & Play Showdown. Everyone who participates gets two hours to create something from scratch in Klik & Play. Abusing the stock objects is encouraged. If you really loathe Klik & Play you can use whatever game development platform you want. Two hours is a pretty tight time limit, though, so choose wisely!

Klik & Play is absolutely free to download, and learning it takes minutes, so everyone can get in on the action. Want to talk to your fellow Klikwreckers? Join us on IRC -- server irc.freenode.net, channel #glorioustrainwrecks. Join the mayhem!

Sign up below to get reminded by email the day before the klikkening begins!

Assault on Crater Bulb

craterbulb.png
Game File:

This game is inspired primarily by ZiGGURAT, Outpost Nexus and SpaceInvader! The news ticker is inspired by Super Mario Sunshine. The tractors are inspired by Team Fortress 2. The environment is loosely inspired by Return of the Invaders.

Defend the lone frontier town, Crater Bulb, from these brightly coloured invading ships! Bounce shots off the floor of the crater to attack airborne and ground foes alike. Charge up to fire one of three different shots, each with unique abilities and purposes. Beware: if even one enemy trooper reaches the city, they will immediately surrender! Undoubtedly, heroic sacrifice isn't the Crater Bulb citizen's top priority.

oh the humanity

I got klik & play for christmas, sometime around 1995 I think, from probably my favourite uncle of all time. I never actually finished a game with it , preferring instead to try and make ambitious multi-genre 007 games, which I would get bored of halfway through developing the tank level.

Now, after the Pirate Kart Meltdown, my mind has been re-blown about how AMAZING this program is for really quick game development. Not only that, you can make the games as pretentious and emotional-subtextually loaded as you like, because the sheer crudeness of the mechanics and hilarity of the clipart will lower the gravitas like nobody's business.

Now, there are two other factors:
a) It is in my nature to get over any fervent interest (like K&P) within a month or so, and not return to it for a long time. So I better start making some stuff before I mentally move on!
b) I work nightfill at a supermarket, and usually finish around 4-5am, after which I generally decide it is a good idea to not go to sleep. So I have about 2 hours of dead time before the day would begin for most people.

Are you getting a picture here? Well hold your spanish dancing horses, there is one more thing:

c) I have recently begun a new relationship, with a girl I am quite fond of!

Ergo, my fellow glorious trainsurfers, I will attempt to chart the course of this relationship, or at least thoughts pertaining to it, with multiple Klik & Play games, each made in less than two hours and fuelled by Ballantine's Finest. They will be pretentious, they will make you cringe, and they will occasionally be loaded with subtle references only I will understand. And oh yes, there will be plenty of horrendously fast-animated cheerleaders.

To begin, I re-submit to you something I made for the pirate kart:

He knew he was out of his league. He hadn't practiced for the event. He was out of breath. Gasping for air. Yet he was on the track, competing, trying not to trip or be trampled by the other runners. It could only end in shame.

BETTER LUCK NEXT TIME, MULLET BOY.

A little morning puzzle

EDIT: Uploaded V2. Ultigonio made some tweaks, and also incorporated Fubaka's feedback.
EDIT: Uploaded another version. Lots of wallswims to fix! Also a new secret area.

Also, I really have to say, I think Ultigonio created an AMAZING puzzle concept here that I don't think I've seen in KS before. It's really interesting to see how creative individuals like him are still able to create new gameplay mechanics from an 8-year-old level editor.

THE THING THAT CAME TO THIS GAME JAM, an event about spooky, strange, and just-plain-weird things that come to a specific geographic location.

Your task: find a random city somewhere in the world using the random generator linked below, and then make a small, medium, or large game about an unforeseen - and life-altering - visitation.

Step 1: Find a Location
Use this random generator to select cities from across the world, and pick a city from the range of selections provided.

https://www.randomlists.com/random-world-cities

(You can also change the options in the generator to select only USA cities, as if that place wasn't already messed-up enough.)

Step 2: Bring Out The [fill in the blank here] Thing
Something strange - or at least unexpected - comes to this town. What is it? What changes? Who does it affect? Will that town ever be the same again? Is it a living thing? Is it an UNliving thing? Is it a concept? Is it an existential threat? Is it an ever-evolving, ever-changing thing itself?

Bonus points provided if your [fill in the blank here] Thing is in some way connected to the town's:

  • geographic location
  • climate
  • landmarks or notable features
  • people and culture

Step 3: Post Your Game Here
If it's not obvious in the game's title, let us know the location in the game description. Where will your game take us?

Keep your game kind to others, but feel free to make it spooky, spoopy, funny, incisive, terrifying, insightful, inciteful, and so on.
