Judgement Teeth WIP: Crazy Uncle Home For Klikmas Edition

Game File:

Here is a game designed by two of my nephews last night at a family gathering. (Programming was mostly done by me, though the older one added the explosion effect himself.) I'm sure they'll have more they'll want to add next time I see them.

Climbing Mount Shepard: A short Knytt Stories level

shepard info.png

I ran into a bit of a mental block on this big level I'm working on, so I finished up a level I started a couple days ago. It's called Climbing Mount Shepard. and it's pretty short, so it won't take long to reach the end... or will it? Tileset is Vestiges 2 by Sergio Cornaga.

Klik of the Month Klub #22

04/18/2009 - 18:00
Etc/GMT-7

The Klik of the Month Klub meets right here on this very website on the third Saturday of every month at 4pm Pacific Time (taking daylight savings into consideration) for a two hour Klik & Play Showdown. Everyone who participates gets two hours to create something from scratch in Klik & Play. Abusing the stock objects is encouraged. If you really loathe Klik & Play you can use whatever game development platform you want. Two hours is a pretty tight time limit, though, so choose wisely!

Klik & Play is absolutely free to download, and learning it takes minutes, so everyone can get in on the action. Want to talk to your fellow Klikwreckers? Join us on IRC -- server irc.freenode.net, channel #glorioustrainwrecks. Join the mayhem!

For more information, check out the KotM N00B FAQ.

Going back in time

I was wracking my brain for ideas (maybe I should have some space cake!) and somewhere in the void that has become my brain (which have survived many scientific tests involving dubious substances) did I remember writing a blog somewhere on the internets. So I plugged the address into the wayback machine and voila! My old blog and gaming notes!!! Thank goodness I still remembered that shizz. I downloaded all that I could as all my backups of these old sites are rotting away on floppies ('mema them?) and I'm not home to go thru them.

So yay, I have my notes. Now to get to cranking on some glorious trainwrecks!

Call of Doodie: Modern Daycare

Game File:

Well, its not good in any sense of the word. ...or really done in any sense of the word...but its here.

You get the same ending by dodging the car for long enough and for crashing into it, I didn't have enough time to do different endings with 2 hours.

But yeah, move the mouse to dodge the cars whilst driving home to play the next totally new and original Call of Doodie game!

This was going to be a bit longer, so if anyone wants me to do all that I planned, I guess you could beg me until I do.

Made in Java instead of Klik and Play, because I'm an idiot.

KNP:More than Two Fire Buttons

Klik & Play provides a control system to complement its built-in movement systems, which includes a control setup menu for reconfiguring keyboard controls or switching to a joystick. However, these controls are somewhat limited: you get four directions, and just two fire buttons.

For most purposes, this limitation is fine, but for some games you may need more than that.

If you are on a keyboard, the easiest way to get more fire buttons is to simply dodge the built-in control system and use Keyboard events ("Upon pressing a key" instead of "Read joystick state"). The problem with this is that you lose configurability, and anyone moving to a joystick will still have to use the keyboard for those fire buttons. If you are not using all four directions, you may consider stealing one or two for more fire buttons by changing the default keyboard controls. Obviously, this will result in wonky controls for joystick users.

If you are on a joystick, enter the Step-Thru Editor. Now press button 3 or 4. Amazingly, Klik & Play will detect these as valid events and allow you to assign actions for these buttons. The events will have no text, but rest assured that they do work. As it would seem, the developers actually provided software support for four-button joysticks, but never made this an "official" feature. The drawback to this is that you won't be able to test for whether buttons 3 and 4 are being held down, due to the nature of the Step-Thru Editor.
