Hello friends!! It's the second Klik & Play marathon! Two years of bringing out your old computers (or DOSBoxes or VM's) to make some games in Klik & Play. This marathon's going to be compiled in an unofficial Pirate Kart and put up on my website! Two rules. Reha Soft PS: I'm gonna try to make games on the Thanksgiving weekend. :D (all day)
Start: 04/24/2016 - 01:00
End: 04/24/2017 - 23:00
So, today is the 9th anniversary of Glorious Trainwrecks! That's like... a bit more than twice as long as I've been here, wow?!? That's really amazing. I don't know who else has been here for 9 years in a row other than SpindleyQ, but even then like. Congratulations!! On such a successful enterprise. I haven't done anything for more than 9 years continuously, other than breathing. Well, to celebrate this, I thought to myself: what if I made a year long event starting today, and ending on the 10th anniversary? "Perfect!" - my reaction. 9 years is very impressive, but the only thing more impressive (that isn't 11) is 10: its' the first double digit, and it's a nice round number, and also it's 10! For some reason numbers like that sound nice. I don't want to throw out celebrating the 9th anniversary either, so this event will combine both. Want to celebrate the 9th anniversary now? You can do that! Want to plan ahead for the 10th anniversary? This will help you do that! Want to celebrate the 10th anniversary now? You can do that too, I guess? Want to celebrate the 9th anniversary in a year? I'm not even going to make a snarky comment because I don't believe in submissions being "late"! So here we go. I will one day submit something to this event, but for now I am too busy. Also, I recognize that the greatest event postings include many amusing gifs and regular images, but I do not have the time to gather suitable ones up. I will gladly take suggestions in the comments. Also SpindleyQ, feel free to edit this post to put some in!! Haaaappy birthday everybody! (all day)

Introducing the Final Four of Something Game Jam! There are only four of them left. This is their story. What are they? Your game will let us know. Star fighter pilots? Chihuahuas? Cheeses in the shoppe? The Four Keg Men of the BroPocalypse? Shoes? Um, sports teams? The following images were found when looking for "four left." (all day)

LISTEN UP. That shouting got your attention, didn't it? Well, it doesn't matter. The man drove up to me, but instead of hacking me to bits with his 4 foot machete, he handed me a business card... What was allegedly on that card, you may or may not be hypothetically asking? Well, let me maybe show you... I scanned it in... Huh... Yeah, there's the file. I asked where that kiss mark came from and he told me his murderer wife made it to seal the deal. I don't know why she's agreeing to deals for me, but I guess I'm alright with it. Anyhow, Speed Wingus said that I should put it up on an alt-gaming website. So uh, yeah. There would've been consequences for not doing this, so I guess this is the better choice. I need to keep my neck intact until I get married to my beautiful wife, thank you very much. Oh shit, I think his big sweaty killer thumb smudged the word "don't" in there. Ah. Well, too late to go back now. Anyways, please help me make 2-hour games. Fast Freak redirected scammers to my email and they won't stop emailing me. He says if he gets like, at least one game he'll leave me alone. I think if we overwhelm him it'll give him a heart attack or something. This jam goes for a month, modestly paced lad told me the games just had to be developed in two hours or less, not that the jam had to go for that long. So take your time, we have a month. Thanks for listening.

Chihuahuas?

Some of you known I have a bit of a soft spot for weird and/or trashy games. I doubt it's a surprise to hear I fell in love with the concept of the Egglike almost right away. The term Egglike was coined by Vinny of the streamer group Vinesauce in 2012 to describe an "ironically shitty' game called The Fantastic Game, which combined Unity's basic FPS controller, assets taken from other games (specifically Super Mario 64), memes, collectathon gameplay (the 'dolla') and word salad dialogue. The result was literally fantastic. Since this game was pretty quotable it spawned a series of copycats of varying degrees of competency (such as Sanic R, Supa Mayro Krat, Shadow of Shrek all the way up to games that weren't intended to be trash, and instead invoked LSD Dream Emulator, such as Crypt Worlds).
The genre officially "died out" when Fantabuloso decided to parody it while making a competent game, which he called Le Fantabulous Game; LFG expanded on the walking simulator formula with the addition of actual combat and Mario/Banjo style minibosses. The dolla became the 'sausage wiener' and a race of creatures called the Shamrock became the enemy. These days, Egglikes are polarising, with half of Vinesauce's fanbase writing them off as oversaturated and unfunny, and the other half begging Vinny to play more (and he is notoriously unwilling after the original flood of barely playable trash). Scrib's Adventure is the newest Egglike, taking the previous games as more than just a major influence and building its own universe around the Golden Eggs and the Spoops. Why are they still popular? Probably the unpredictability and the energy behind them. It takes a lot to come up with weird sights and balance them with gameplay. The problem is, there's not many of them. Not intentional Egglikes, anyway. I want to see what people with experience in experimental game dev can make using the Egglike aesthetic. The rules are simple: it has to be made on Unity, the gameplay has to include the collection of some sort of item (the more random the better), combat isn't mandatory, and there must be a heavy appropriation of classic video games (music especially), inside jokes and memes. Everything else is entirely up to you. Popular subjects of meme include Mayro/Mario, Sanic, Danny Devito and Shrek, and while Fantastic and SA are great examples and probably enough to work with, you can check out other confirmed Egglikes here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLYdTRyEqo_YxE7PfXjNK8Lee4tyT7D7ab
