Crying: A Flickgame by me

When I heard there was a need for more flickgames at the event, I decided to submit an old one I haven't shared until now. Zip comes with the flick images ready for print; it should be put together in landscape mode, if you're making a zine out of them.

Good Comics Journalism and Robin will Never Die: Comics Alliance is being shut down

Dunno how many of you keep up with the funnybooks, but word spread out on Monday that AOL is shutting down Comics Alliance. I don't really count myself as part of the comics "scene" anymore, but the news was still just an absolute shock for me. I mean, earlier this year 1Up was shut down and my reaction was pretty meh, but they close Comics Alliance and I'm all HOLY MOTHER OF GOD SHIT SHIT NO

That must say something about me, I think.

Anyway, because I am mad autistic and don't want to see the whole site just up and disappear one day, I'm making a personal archive of the site, mostly my favorite articles and junk. Attached is part one of the Remedial Batmanology series, covering the Burton films; they're are some of my favorite comics writing (even though it's mostly just two nerds gettin' mad about Batman, go figure). This is pretty grey market, so I'd suggest you read the articles on Comics Alliance's website while it's still up.

Original Program Description:
=====================
Learn 100 Words: One At A Time!

Welcome to Learn 100 Words: One At A Time Edition © 2015! In this program, you will select one of 100 possible words to learn, each hidden behind a number representing the categorization of it for both purposes of record keeping, as well as that of keeping the 100 words available as a bit of a surprise to be learnt by you, one at a time!

The goal of each game, you can call them, is to establish your understanding of the word on display. How you do this varies. Sometimes you must answer a quiz. Sometimes you must think hard about how to go outside of the box and really understand. Each "game" shall tell you how to approach it so that you do not need to play them in any order to grow understanding, it will come over time naturally.

If you are ever caught struggling, you may be asked to have the "game" offer you a hint, which can be paused and replayed at will with no penalty. So do not worry about pressing it as often as needed, or even more!

The "games" will also give you pointers on when you have gotten something correct, or have gotten something wrong, so you can experiment and understand the effects your choices have on your progress. And also you may turn off the music and/or the other sounds as you please, if they are distracting or some such.

I hope you greatly enjoy Learn 100 Words: Learn 1 At One Time Edition 2015©!

DIY Wario

http://www.offworld.com/2009/04/quick-look-warioware-made-in-ore.html -- interesting!
I know there's a smal and growing collection of similar stuff on line.

For my money a WarioWare construciton kit would be more interesting than the one in, say, Big Little Planet

Twine: how the Rewind menu in Sugarcane works

The Rewind menu in the Sugarcane story format only displays previously visited passages that have been given the tag "bookmark".

Fig. 1: Anna Anthropy's "Town" after certain passages were given the 'bookmark' tag.

Passages in the menu are displayed as a truncated snippet of their text, in ascending order in which you visited (earliest at the top, latest at the bottom). As you can see, since I visited the plaza twice already, it appears twice in the list. (Also, if you're currently at a "bookmark" passage, it will appear at the bottom, letting you redundantly "rewind" to the present.)

Of course, since the player can already step back through their entire game history using the browser's "back" button, the utility of the Rewind menu is somewhat questionable. And, of course, games that use the <<display>> macro heavily (such as Town itself) will not benefit well from it (unless, perhaps, you use <<addtag>> in the displayed passage to add the bookmark tag to everything that displays it???).

Bug: a bug in the current version of Sugarcane means that the Rewind menu will stop working if one of the bookmarked passages has less than 7 words in it. Just so you know.
