Puzzle Platformer

screenshot.png

I've been an iOS game developer for a few years now, but this is my first solo and PC project. It's a simple puzzle platformer, but with a twist you may not expect. Enjoy!

File hosting changes

Hello friends,
The Glorious Trainwrecks server has been running into disk space issues for a while. Thus far I've been able to deal with them but it's been clear for a while that a long-term fix is needed. And I've built one!

If you are not interested in the technical details, just be aware that I made some changes to how the site works and if you notice anything weird or any downloads are not working, please let me know! Everything should be backed up in multiple places. I should be able to fix it.

If you ARE interested in the technical details: I am moving most of our hosted games to a service called Backblaze B2. B2 is a static file hosting service that charges me only for the space that I use, and is MASSIVELY cheaper than adding disk space to the server directly. I already have full daily encrypted site backups stored in B2, so I trust it with your games. That said, if I needed to move to a different service in the future, there are lots of options out there, and moving should be very easy to do now that the pieces are in place.

I've written a small PHP script that redirects requests to B2 if it detects that the file has been migrated. nginx is passing all requests for the /files/ directory to this script. I actually keep a 0-byte file around on disk for migrated files so that Drupal's auto file renaming logic should still work. I've done my best to make this totally transparent, but there may still be a bug or two that I haven't caught - please let me know if you see anything weird! I tried to keep things as simple and foolproof as possible.

At this time, migration is a process that has to be triggered manually, so I have full control over what files are migrated. I'm not moving screenshots because I'm pretty sure that would mess up thumbnail generation. Newly uploaded stuff will still be served locally until I need to clear up more space again. Which might not be for a very long time.

Anyway! That was too much information but this took up most of my day today so I wanted to share. I've always wanted Glorious Trainwrecks to be a place where your work could be stored for the long haul; this is just the next step in making sure I can continue to keep that promise to you.

ABOUT

Space Funeral 3D was created by a dedicated team of unpaid volunteers over a timespan of about half a year (with most of that time taken up by the map file just lying around and accumulating dust). Someone accidentally dug up the project just in time for the deadline of Kate's Informal Katelabs Jam (https://www.glorioustrainwrecks.com/node/12033), so now you have to suffer through this mess. Play it or perish!

Thanks to Kate for creating such a fun game/tool! Thank you to the BBC Radiophonic Workshop for preemptively composing the soundtrack for Space Funeral 3D half a century ago. Thank you to thecatamites for inspiring the original character of Hand Horse™. Thank you to all Space Funeral fangame makers, especially all those that never published their work anywhere and just left their beautifully unfinished RPG Maker projects germinating in some subfolder. Also thank you to Nintendo for providing the Mario™ license to Camelot Software Planning - where would we be without them?

Game Making Tools Wiki

Hey!!!

I've been slowly adding things to this little wiki project of mine, and it'd be great if anyone here wanted to add a little something to it. Even just dump some helpful tutorial links, or write a little about a program you know, or correct my bad writing :)

I hope it'll be a really good resource for people who want to start making games, and people who, like me, just forget how to do everything every time they load Unity or Construct or whatever D:

CornHub

Game File (Linux):
Game File (Mac):

This is a cacophonous noise game about candy corn.

I originally meant for this to come out well before Halloween, but it turns out I'm still bad at getting things to work in Unity. So when you play this, imagine that it's still Halloween season and you're all spooked out and you just carved a jack o lantern.

Enjoy!

Release Me!

Save Robina from this devious device! Follow the chain of gears, wires and doohickeys to figure out which button will lift her up and which will lower her to her doom.

This is basically a remake of this microgame in WarioWare. I was going to make this for Somedays #5 but I got unfortunately sidetracked.
