You Have to Put the Mystery in the Kid's Cartoon

noun_in_noun cover.png

Another installment in SoftSoft's venerable "put the thingy into the other thingy" series. This one's an allegorical representation of Alex Hirsch, putting mystery into his kid's cartoon so that folks everywhere and everywhen could enjoy it. It's also the installment that took the longest to make, because I kept adding in these like "unique parser responses" and "Gravity Falls in-jokes". I may update later in the week with more, but for now, just enjoy it for what it is. Remember, you need an interpreter program like Gargoyle or Windows Frotz to play the Z-code file.

You are a Blob! (a SoftSoft Twine game)

This year I decided to enter Ectocomp, a yearly Halloween competition hosted by someone in the IF community (yes, I know this overlaps with the IF Comp, I dunno either). You can read more about it here. I downloaded Twine and everything just for it too.

You are a Blob actually wasn't my first game idea (a choice-based adaption of "Jacked Up Jack-o-Lantern" from the Regular Show Trilogy of Terror 3), but an eight-year-old was getting cold feet about entering, so I vowed to make a game so crappy it would make everyone else's game shine like gold! Which turned out to be no small feat, because everyone and their mother entered a game (or two) this year, for a grand total of 24 entries. But I think I gave it a good run.

If you like this game, please consider downloading (and judging!) the whole set. You can play most of these games through an interpreter like Gargoyle.

You Have to Put the Shamrock in the Pot of Gold

noun_in_noun cover.png

A You-Have-to-Put-the-Noun-in-the-Other-Noun game for St. Pat's! Note that I couldn't be bothered to put a leprechaun in this; if that really bugs you for some reason pretend that the backstory for this game involves an epic quest to beat a leprechaun to the rainbow's end.

Note that this does require an interpreter to play. If you're playing from the launcher you should be good to go, but if you're not, try Zoom for the Mac or Gargoyle for Windows.

You Can Watch the Oscars!

oscars cover.png

The ultimate Oscar watching game! While my family was watching the real Oscars, I put together this wholesome entertain-game, just for you guys! Aren't you so lucky? (Cover comes from here, btw.)

Note that this game does require an interpreter to play. If you're playing from the launcher you're good, but if not, try Zoom for Mac, or Gargoyle for Windows.

You Have to Put the Ball in the Cup *DELUXE EDITION*

noun_in_noun cover.png

A Deluxe version of the SoftSoft classic! Can YOU put the ball in the cup?

(Blah blah blah, needs an interpreter to run; if you're playing this from the launcher, you're good to go, but if not, there's Zoom for the Mac, and Gargoyle for Windows.)

You Have to Put the Racially Progressive Message in the Funnybook

noun_in_noun cover.png

Yet another entry in the storied "You Have to Put the Noun in the Other Noun" series, this one pays tribute to the late, great Dwayne McDuffie, who died a year ago today. The sharp-eyed will note that this is kind of a sucky tribute to the man, and I'd agree. I wish I could say something witty and profound here, but all I can do is link this and hope that most of you will find it as amusing as I do.

(Oh, and before I forget: You'll need an interpreter to play this game. I recommend Zoom for the Mac, and Windows Frotz or Gargoyle for Windows.)

Knytt Stories and You: A Tutorial by SoftSoft

soft_tut_screen.png

So if we're submitting Knytt Stories to the Kart, we should probably have our own tutorial, right? I mean, sure, there's a perfectly fine one bundled with the game itself, but that one doesn't really gibe with Glorious Trainwrecks ethos, right? This is what SoftSoft was thinking when it made this level.

Note that SoftSoft is not allowed to touch Knytt Stories anymore.

Games included in the fun pack:

You Have to Put the Ball in the Cup: A SoftSoft classic!
You Have to Put the Spider in the Jack-O-Lantern: Just in time for Halloween!
You Have to Put the George Washington in the American Flag: Everyone's favorite piece of Americana interactive fiction!
You Have to Put the Candy Cane in the Stocking: A Holiday classic!
You Have to Put the Indie Game in the Contest: Made especially for IGF!
Delicious Breakfast: From Pirate Kart 2!
Interview with a Rock Star: Made so long ago and is so obscure that it's just like a BRAND NEW GAME!

All of these classic and soon-to-be-classic games are now blorbed up, so that they can include cover art and bibliographic data and stuff!

Also, if you would like to volunteer to get these games running through Parchment or possibly another web-based interpreter program, that'd be great! It'd certainly take a lot off of Mike's workload.
