Shellmar's Shellulous Journey

screenshot311.png
Game File:

Guide Shellmar the blue turtle through the perilous blue caves in search of treasure!

Shellmar has the special ability to repel bullets by holding his shell over his head. Shellmar is not very strong, though, and this soon wears him out, so he can only hold his shell over his head while standing on the ground and for only one second at a time.

CONTROLS:

Left/right: Move
Down: Cover Shellmar with shell
X: Jump

F4: Toggle fullscreen
Esc: Quit
F9: Take screenshot

I was in a river in Zion Canyon most of Saturday, so I missed this KotM, but I've been itching to participate in another one for a while now and figured I'd rather be late now than wait for next month.

I've been wanting to make this game's basic idea for a while. It became a somewhat different thing.

Dumas Party - In Glorious HD!

DumasParty.png

Felt like making this, dunno why. About a hundred instances of El Loco Dumas (Yellow Runner) jog across your screen while pulsing up and down to upbeat music and a seizure-inducing background. Requires hardware-accelerated DirectX 8 and a screen resolution over 1280x800. If too many people are on cobweb-collecting antiques can't run the demo, guess I'll upload a less extravagant software-rendered version. Made using MMF2.

P.S. Hold Spacebar for more Dumas (over 500!).

Edit: Holy crap, the image is so wide that it breaks the layout. Oops.

Prehistoric Dungeon Family

Clipboard01.jpg

Anyone from elsewhere portaling into here, welcome to here... Click the logo on the top of the page, enjoy your stay whether quickly passing by or stopping in as I did, consult with me on irc #glorioustrainwrecks on freenode and cheers to you! Moving on:

Prehistoric Dungeon Family is a game where if you choose to be part of the family they take care of you as one of their own. I know this sounds like some organized crime game but it's really not, it's just about family ties and importance and friendship and all that sort of stuff, so relax, enjoy, and absorb the chemicals that are in family.

I also converted it to TGF2 so there's a flash version too http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/603702

You might want to see the old text file which isn't included in the flash version sooo:

MarMOTS update

Integrating my stackless python game engine is progressing smoothly, though it's turned out to be a little bit more work than I had initially bargained for.

Big change #1 is that the game loop no longer runs as fast as possible; rather it only runs in response to external events (keypresses + timers). Obviously, since I'm going to be running this thing on a server that I share with a couple hundred other people, using 100% CPU all of the time is not the best way to go. It's actually kind of bugged me for a long while that the engine did that, so it's nice to have a fix.

Big change #2 is that a bunch of global variables containing the current high-level "game state" (ie, which board we're on, which board we're heading to next, etc) got split into a new kind of object called a Client. This was kind of bad design in the first place, but I really needed this new entity once I introduced multiplayer.

The good news is that these two big changes are done, and a proof-of-concept port of hax0r over telnet to work the bugs out should be coming soon!

I'm kind of leaning towards only supporting SyncTERM over flashterm. Advantages to SyncTERM: ANSI music support, the smiley face character works. Disadvantages: Seperate app that you'll have to download, rather than clicking a button on a webpage. The ANSI music "language" looks sort of like ZZT's music language, so you can imagine that I'm pretty hyped about supporting THAT.
