Playfic: An Online Inform 7/Text Adventure Creator

In the creator's own words:

"Playfic is a community for writing, sharing, and playing interactive fiction games (aka "text adventures") entirely from your browser, using a 'natural language'-inspired language called Inform 7.

**********

My hope is that Playfic opens up the world of interactive fiction to a much wider audience — young writers, fanfic authors, and culture remixers of all ages.

While the language can be tricky, building simple games is surprisingly easy. Cooper had never coded anything or made a game before trying Playfic, and within 30 minutes of futzing around, he'd made his first game.

Some stuff is broken and missing, but I'd love to hear what you make of it. Open to any and all feedback. Go make some games!"

I feel like this could turn out to be a valuable asset to our Trainwrecking. At the very least, it probably needs to be added to this list. What do you guys think?

Nice Ass, Baby!

Nice Ass, Baby.png
Game File:

Released in 2013 to wide disgust from future me.

CW: Epilepsy, very fast moving objects that obscure your vision.

Fun facts about Nice Ass, Baby!:

- It's not a good video game.
- In fact it's the only one of my games that can be classed as true kusoge.
- The name is taken from a GTA: Vice City cutscene.
- It's paritally broken and I can't fix it.
- It did have a bonus archive that came with the game but I removed it due to foolishly including stuff that I didn't even own.
- If the archive still existed, the password would have been "corruptionofchampions". Yes, this game references items from an R-18 flash game.
- Most levels that appear to linger on a static image can be advanced via left clicking.
- The way "zetazs map" is a single image that flashes text on screne before changing is a nod to Vidiot Game by GZStorm.
- On "gro plus", click any jack in the box. Soon as you collect enough points (about 50000), it'll turn into a big negative number. If you go over 10k, press F2 and restart.
- On "reducto", its hard to see but in the bottom left corner it says "press z". Do that.
- On "numb rocks", the acceleration is intentionally slower than molasses. Press and hold a direction, you'll eventually keep moving. I'd advise against stopping before changing direction unless you want to be there all day.
- On "whisker fruit", you have to have extreme patience and motor control. Mute the audio so you can concentrate. Gently press the up key to start moving, but dont hit it too hard or you'll zoom into a wall and will have to start over. Press down if you need to stop. The walls and ceilings without anything on them will stop you as well. You need to collect the weird eyeball on the top left to continue into the right hand part of the screen. Collide with the bubbles to finish the level.

2018 Extra Notes: Interestingly, this is one of my games that I went back and replayed last year, which is when the stuff above was added. So I don't have anything more to add. This game isn't very good at all haha.

6x7 Planet

cohorts.png
Game File:

Viridian and the gang (part of the gang) got stuck in some other dimension-type thing again! With spikes and whatnot. Ha ha ha how does this keep happening?

6x7 semi-open ended level somewhat influenced by Souleye's carefree style of levelmaking (though this uses direct mode). Difficulty curve is jank at the beginning since it's imported from an unfinished level I made like two years ago. Overall it's likely too difficult for beginners, though it's probably - probably - nothing Golden Spiral-level.

This is actually the first VVVVVV level I've made public, aside from a three-screen joke level a looooooong time ago that parodied how edgy and juvenile most VVVVVV joke levels are.

Please point out any bugs or awkward points in the level because there are probably like five that I missed, thanks!

A Test

vvvvvv-01.gif
Game File:

To kick things off, here's the origin of the GIF I made to promote this event: my first ever level! Right after the release of VVVVVV: Make and Play Edition, I wanted to put out a level to promote it. I was immediately struck by the power of "direct mode", which allows manual placement of basically every tile in the game. As far as I could tell, nobody had released a level utilising it to the extent I had, so I decided to hold back so I could surprise everyone with something even more impressive. I started on a follow-up, Viridian's Venture, a painstakingly methodical adaptation of places in The Pilgrim's Progress despite me having virtually no enthusiasm for the original work. In retrospect it's extremely obvious why I never completed this, but I'll see what I can salvage from it to post for this event.

Oh, and the GIF above shows off the entire level, but just in case you still feel like downloading:

To install VVVVVV levels, extract the .zip file into the VVVVVV level folder, then run VVVVVV (or Make and Play Edition). The folder should be in one of these places depending on your OS:
Windows:
…/Documents/VVVVVV/levels/
OSX: …/Library/Application Support/VVVVVV/levels/
Linux: …/.local/share/VVVVVV/levels/

CAN IT BE DONE?

Having been thoroughly inspired by snapman's brilliant Tek Demo, qrleon's glorious cracktro, and the recent discovery of some excellent Vic-20 demos, I have come to the startling conclusion that it should actually be possible to create a raycasting engine in Klik & Play.

WATCH THIS SPACE.
