I deleted a game yesterday.

A community member posted a game here yesterday that had a casually racist "joke" as its title. I deleted it.

(If it would help you to know specifics, the game was called "Nenkey Dogro", and you controlled a Black person riding a donkey. The user who created it is Sejez.)

I want to be explicit now, because I have not been explicit in the past: racism isn't funny, and it doesn't have a home here.

The same goes for misogyny, sexism, Islamophobia, anti-Semitism, transphobia, homophobia, and biphobia. I have always strived to make Glorious Trainwrecks an inclusive place, where people can feel comfortable sharing their creative work. That can't happen in a place where people are free to make jokes at the expense of your humanity.

I have not chosen to delete things very often. I doubt quite strongly that this particular game is the most egregious thing on the site. In the past I have let things slide that should not have, in the mistaken and, frankly, cowardly hope that they would quietly go unnoticed. I am no longer going to do this.

The user that posted this has had an account here for five years, and has posted numerous games. I have, for the moment, locked their account, and reached out to them via email. I'm not sure if I will feel comfortable unlocking their account in the future; I think that will depend on how they respond, and how the community responds here.

I feel it is important to make my stance very clear, and provide a place for the community to talk about it. It's a conversation I've avoided for too long.

My PMs are open, as always. If you see gross shit, please say something. If we think the community needs more moderators than just me, I'm open to that as well.

Had to compress the videos to muck, but hope you like it!

Controls are arrows and Page Up/Down, or the sticks on a controller.

NB: Linux one is the only one tested properly, but the Windows one was tested in Wine.

Rapid Prototyping - Grand Theft Shmup

After the success* of "Penguins Are Attacking Your Dude!" I thought I would get back into MMF "programming" again.

After a while, I got off my arse and started doing something.

An hour or two after that, Grand Theft Shmup v0.01 was born!

The gist of it is that you are the dot, and you have to kill bad guys. You can steal enemy ships by bumping into them, and then use those ships against the enemy! Like in that popular car-jacking murder sim everyone loves. ;)

The controls are:
Arrow Keys - Move
Shift - Dash (while in dot mode) or Shoot (while in Ship mode)
Control - Overload Ship (Destroys ship to fire many bullets)

As a prototype, it exists to create the outline for a project. The prototype should show that the finished game will fill in all the requirements. As I am mainly making the game as a hobby for myself as well as maybe a talking point for any interviews and stuff, the goals are:

- Game should be at least vaguely in the Shmup genre.
- Game should be enjoyible and complelling from the first go.
- Game should be pick up and play. To be more specific, the player should be able to play the game is short bursts.
- Game should use the ship stealing mechanic to good effect, using it to give the player many options in gameplay.
- Game should be deterministic. If the player enters the same input 5 times, she should get the same result 5 times.
- Game should have a high amount of polish, and should be bug free (note that the prototype will not have this point. It's only like a really small demo to show what the finished product will be like)

Download is HERE

Please tell me what you think of it!

*=I finished it, about 5 people played it, and no one has sued me or burned down my house yet, so it was a success!

I guess we should selfishly praise ourselves here, ey?

I am a Finnish Game-Creationist and I've been using Clickteam products for 7 years, approximately. Most of that time I've been either a terrible copycat idiot or a genius copycat mastermind. The line between is arbitrary.

Huh.

Hey, this bio is totally annoying to write! I can't think of anything clever yet witty to say about myself! Even that bio pic isn't the one I would have wanted to choose, but the best one has long since disappeared. I envy all the people who get great game ideas and actually make games out of those ideas. The latter I can't do most of the time.

Looking at the bio list, most people have even shorter biographies than me, so maybe I can just add a couple more linebreaks and call it a day.

Yes.

esc to close

babycastles friends: please take care to follow instructions on bcepistolary.pdf
the rest is up to you

the first comment below will probably be someone telling me it doesn't work
I'll fix whatever problems there are in the morning.
(you don't have to tell me the date on the pdf is wrong)

update: if the other download doesn't work, there's a file attached below that should work good. In that one, just run the exe.
Also, the full screen doesn't really work too good. I'll patch it if there's interest, but y'know.

2. Or, maybe you should remake one of your older games?
3. Look back and see! Maybe there is one old game of yours, waiting for a sequel!
4. Anything else related to old games?
5. Ah okay, if you don't have anything like that on your mind, just make a really nice , fun and colorful game. don't forget to add good tunes!
