Ten years ago today, I started cobbling together some Drupal plugins and trying to convince my friends that it would be fun to make weird videogames. I've been having a nostalgic old time poking around at the first handful of posts, as I was trying to figure out just what the hell this place was going to be. (2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 - note, I didn't figure out how to turn on history for wiki pages for a while, but I linked the oldest available ones where possible)
(Parenthetically: I really ought to find that home video and upload it somewhere.)

Congrats to everyone contributing to make this little place a fun and cozy thing. I had much fun writing silly games and even more fun playing other people's.
I've been really absent for the past few years but that doesn't mean my fondness for this website had withered away. I used to value each one of you like kind of real friends at the time and i felt like I had a place to do what I loved the most (which was making amateur looking mid-1990's games. Ain't that pretty specific? I'm lucky i found this place!).

God, so many things have happened. This feels significant as right now I only have a couple more weeks until I graduate NYU for game design, a program which I probably got into because of my involvement in this community. I am also now roommates with ihavefivehat after only knowing him online. The first game I ever posted online was here and I'm just grateful that I had a place to show my games that felt like a welcoming active community. Thanks everyone! :-)

Happy birthday GT!!! I can't believe I've been here for just under half of the total lifespan of Glorious Trainwrecks. Like, wow! I'm so grateful for the drive to creation that this site has constantly given me, since making games has been such an important aspect of my recent life. I look forward to the next ten years :)

My favorite memory is when you were going to make Jaws Unleashed: Mustach Edition, but I convinced you last-minute that it would be much funnier if Jaws was leashed. It's that kind of collaboration to reach greater heights that I think really best encapsulates what this place can mean to the world.
I am so forever grateful for
I am so forever grateful for Glorious Trainwrecks. After a few years away, I got back into making games in 2009, but was biting off much bigger projects than I could chew and was languishing, my interest in game-making was beginning to flag.
Then in 2010 I started participating in Pirate Karts and Klik of the Month Klubs. Banging something out in an afternoon was liberating, and having a community dedicated to doing the same thing really enlivened and inspired me. That spirit of exploration and experimentation has spurred me on to make the bigger projects and better games I have succeeded in making the last few years.
I can't believe I'm basically an oldbie on this site now. A member for over seven years. I still feel a bit like a newcomer.
My favorite moment of this whole crazy thing so far was the 2012 Pirate Kart V made for GDC. That week I made 25 games, and it was immensely fun and rewarding to see the number of games in the Kart grow so much, to watch people play the games on the floor at GDC, and to dedicate almost a full week of my life to just making whatever the hell came into my head.
Y'all makin' me want to make more trainwrecks.

Oh gosh, happy birthday GT!
Oh gosh, happy birthday GT! I miss my carefree college days of the pirate karts, where I would sequester myself in my room for 48 hours and make as many ludicrous games as I could. As time went on, it was cool to see the site expand beyond that to incorporate every kind of game, art project, and Interactive Multimedia Experience imaginable. As silly as it might sound, a lot of my artistic sensibilities are inspired by the games and people here - my fondest memory might be releasing Nowhere To Go But Nowhere, a weird thing which I made during a tough time in my life... and it being appreciated here meant a lot to me. I think the community in general owes itself a pat on the back for being a kind, accepting, and inclusive place, that looks at every game released here and states that they all have worth.
So happy birthday, Glorious Trainwrecks. I shall forever love your Klik and Play fever dreams, your abstract art performance spaces, your Knytt Stories levels, your asset flipping exhibitions, and every daring feat of creativity your lovely users have ever made.

Speaking of Nowhere To Go But Nowhere, I'm sad to report that it's stopped working yet again due to annoying changes made by Dropbox. If it's still otherwise functional, it would be great to have a version hosted here on Glorious Trainwrecks? If it's based on a lot of files that need to be uploaded in the same place or has a directory structure, you might need to work something out with SpindleyQ like I did with Passagebalt.
