Story You are the master architect Daedalus. You have just finished building the Labyrinth; a massive, elaborate maze on the Isle of Crete.

Unfortunately, boasts about your accomplishment have drawn the wrath of jealous gods. They have sent a burning energy wave rippling through your creation...

Gameplay The gameplay and concept are fairly simple. You are in a procedurally-generated maze that extends infinitely to the right. The goal is to escape the maze by progressing to the right, but, of course, there is no end to the maze.

To make matters worse, a red wave of insta-killing wrath slowly marches in from the left. You try and escape the wave for as long as possible, but eventually the game will always end in a victory for the gods.

Livestock Longstack

This is a game based on an old logic puzzle involving water, boats, animals and at least one plant. The solution it provides is a little bit different to what you might think, though.

Vaudeville & Sword

To make matters worse, the music hall is infested with monsters, and most of the performers are missing! As a hired sword, it is your job to clear the monsters, find the performers, and make sure that the show goes smoothly...

You are a young and ambitious sphere who feels ready to run for the president. Can you get the support of the majority in a country of two strongly opposing factions? Find out in this action puzzle game than only uses dark blue, yellow and magenta colors unless it uses gray. I made this game in two days after spending several days on having good intentions and producing absolutely nothing. Challenge yourself and spend ten minutes on this!

Or five minutes and fifty seconds. If you win the game this fast, you will be better than me.

THE EMERGENCY 100-IN-1 KLIK AND PLAY PIRATE KART MELTDOWN

Sat, Sep 08 2007 12:00 AM
09/08/2007 - 00:00
09/10/2007 - 00:00
Etc/GMT-7

UPDATE: We placed 6th!

UPDATE: Download the complete 100-in-1 Klik & Play Pirate Kart here! (31mb, 7z format)

UPDATE: The Meltdown may be over, but the fun is just beginning! Answer the call for metadata!

UPDATE: HOLY SHIT WE ACTUALLY DID IT I CAN'T FUCKING BELIEVE IT.

Thank you so fucking much to all 17 members of TEAM GLORIOUS TRAINWRECKS DOT COM! YEAAAAH!!

The TIGSource B-game Competition was designed specifically for us to win. Yet, it ends in just over a week and no useful work has come out of our collective efforts thus far! The only solution: an insane, balls-out impossible plunge into madness.

Our entry is the "100-in-1 Klik and Play Pirate Kart", and in just forty-eight hours, we will produce 100 games. If some of them aren't done in Klik and Play, so much the better. If we don't actually make it to 100 games, well, neither did those 100-in-1 pirate carts. We can always subtly alter game names in the menu and/or do game-breaking sprite hacks.

Like the Klik of the Month Klub, you have no more than two hours to complete a single game. UNlike the Klik of the Month Klub, there is no set time to start and end -- the Pirate Kart Meltdown runs continuously the entire weekend. Klik & Play is freely downloadable.

Also unlike the Klik of the Month Klub, there will be PRIZES. I will personally mail terrible games to your front door for contributing to this noble effort. (Which games, exactly, are forthcoming.) Participants in the Meltdown are competing for these three prizes:

The HOLY SHIT I'M DROWNING IN GAMES prize goes to the person who produces the greatest number of games in the 48-hour period.
The WTF IS GOING ON HERE prize goes to the person who develops the game with the most bizarre mechanics.
The VIVA VARIETY JOHNNY BLUEJEANS prize goes to the person with the largest range of game styles.

Voting in these categories will be open to everyone who creates games this weekend. Yes, even the HOLY SHIT I'M DROWNING IN GAMES prize is put to a vote. I just feel like it, that's why.

Either I'm ineligible for prizes or other people have to send me shit if I win. Prize donations are welcome -- hell, if we round up enough people, a second or third place wouldn't be inconceivable.

ONWARD! UPWARD! JUSTICEWARD!

My next project

After successfully finishing Tek Demo, I've been thinking about other aspects of KnP that haven't been fully explored. I've never made use of active object internal flags. What does "spread a number" do to alterable values? The event editor has its own options panel? But one thing really hit me as being full of potential. Klik & Play had support for a very old animation format: FLC/FLI. No sound, palletized, somewhat dodegy playback speed, and very poor compression. That, and no modern video converters seem to support the format. But a while ago, I found this old DOS command-line converter called DTA. Running it under dosbox, I could convert a directory of tga or pcx files into a knp compatible flc video. And just now I've finished the conversion path, from shooting video, to jpg sequence, to tga sequence, to fli animation.

The filesizes are awful. What started out as an 882kb avi lasting maybe two seconds turns into a 4.5MB(!) fli animation with no sound. But I have the batch processing steps down now. And my planned idea won't take more than maybe 8 videos to do, each lasting about two seconds, at double the tested video dimensions, and half the framerate. I'm looking at about 64MB of fli video, plus whatever filesize the actual GAME part of this idea clocks in at. I think this could end up being very, very funny indeed.

My first step is going to be shooting video, of course. And dealing with the difficulty of convincing friends that they desperately want to be the stars of this overwhelmingly foolish idea.

KnP FMV, here we come!
